Replying To MadgeKing:  "Remind us again who these great forwards are who will score when the eyes are on McManus?

Havent heard too much about them. Your goalkeeper is ur 2nd top scorer ffs."
Wake up lad. Monaghan had nine different scorers against Kerry, two weeks ago. I am convinced Cavan will be doing well to keep their loss under 7 or 8 points.

Replying To PatTheDandy:  "Are you missing any players that were absent from the two games with Covid that might come in and do something? Asking more in hope that expectation as that is not a great team, and the forward line is quite light.
If not, my team would be:

1. Galligan (would have James Farrelly instead if he is on the panel but don't think he is)

2. McTimoney
3. McLoughlin (On McManus)
4. Cusack (Taking other peoples word on him for the most part)

15. Oisin Kiernan (Sweeper)

6. Faulkner (Stand your ground Faulkner)

5. Ciaran Brady
7. Gerry Smith

8. Gearoid McKiernan
9. Thomas Galligan
12. James Smith

10. Martin Reilly
11. Conor Madden

13. Conor Smith
14. Cormac O'Reilly

Gearoid can take the left footed and straight frees, and Galligan can take the long range and right footed frees.

Decent team of big men from 5-12 there that should be able to keep us competitive against a mediocre Monaghan if they actually show up on the day. The gambles are obviously in the two inside lines. The two young corner backs are unproven, but I think the alternatives to them are proven to be not good enough at this stage, so I have went for exuberance. With Faulkner needed at CB, McLoughlin is the next best option for the job.

Not really seeing much left then in the way of impact subs. Stephen Murray coming on at 5 or 7 if he has 15 mins in him would be useful. Happy enough for Conroy to come on for Martin Reilly in the playmaker role at a similar time, and perhaps Oisin Pierson for one of the inside men. Niall Murray would be considered if fit & sharp but dont think he is anywhere near."
This team is a bold team as we all know it's do or die so let's give it a lash
Galligan or Farrelly

2. McLoughlin Honest player you have to start him
3. Faulkner
4, Brady ? mark on Brady he has to realise he is playing for the county and his team

5. McVitty C/lough
6. C Rehill C/lough
7. N Murray C/Gaels if ready

8. James Smith C/lough
9. Peter Corrigan K/court

10. Martin Reilly K/Garry
11. Gearoid McKiernan C/Gaels
12. Barry Reilly K/court
13. Tinnelly K/court
14. P Lynch C/Lough
15. Gumley Ballinagh

Subs: G Smith Oisin Pierson K Clarke Cusack J Brady Ramor C O'Reilly if available Madden Corrigan Kingscourt Conroy Galligan if fit, There are several others out there especially from Killygarry

There is no point in selecting lads who are not on the panel as they won't be playing!!!

What is this Gumley lad from Ballinagh first name?

Colin Gumley he hasn't played since about 2012 at any level but still think he could be worth a punt in the corner and while we're at it throw Cusack in corner back to mark McManus in his first county game.

Because in club football he has marked the best players in the county and generally done a good job on them. He kept Clerkin, O'Connell & Pierson very quiet in games this year. All three have played junior or senior football for Cavan.
He also has U20 intercounty experience.
He's the best man marker in the county so, regardless of experience, why not put the best marker on the opposition's best forward?

That's the funniest thing I've read all day.
You do realise Conor Rehill, Barry Reilly & Philip Tinnelly have all opted out of inter county football!?
And are you chartering a fly home for McVeety!?
You have to be on the wind up here.

Look, it's not going to happen. Faulkner will mark McManus. If not him, then McLoughlin. Killian Clarke probably 3rd in line for that job.

I'd happily put all 3 on him because those monaghan posters above don't even believe themselves. Keep mcmanus quiet and we'll run out winners. Others might be able to chip in with a point or 2 when he's on song and making room for them, but their shooting against Meath at the weekend (from marks) was the stuff of junior club forwards (not that ours was any better).

For me the problem is we have far too many identikit players, there are about 20 players who could fit the following description...."good lad, very good footballer, neat, recycles possession, will kick a point, loves a solo, recycles possession again".

Murrays x2, Oisin Kiernan, Fortunes, Smith, Conroy, Stephen Smith, Madden, Pierson, Ciaran Brady, Conor Smith, Doughty could all fit the above description. Nice, neat footballers but all too samey. You could find another 20 just like them at club level and it would be much of a muchness.

We simply dont have somebody who offers that x factor in attack, McManus scored 1-8 at the weekend. Thats routine for him, we dont have anyone capable of hitting that, lads are happy enough to kick a point and then just work back and forth.
We dont pose any goal threat whatsoever, cannot win a big game without at least 2 goals. Against a makeshift roscommon defence on Saturday we never looked like we intended to work a goal chance.

Its why Mackey was such a big player for us, he was a maverick. He wanted to genuinely hurt teams every time he got the ball, he would try something different like beat 3 or 4 men and carry it into the penalty box or try a killer pass when a handy point is on. In an ideal world my inside line this weekend would contain Niall McDermott and Caoimihin reilly but what can you do

Anyways there is enough negativity on this forum, i dont want to add to it...and i certainly wont be making a hero of anyone who wont even show up for the county. I will be fully behind the team we put out on saturday...would like to see the following

R.Galligan

Jason McLoughlin (Would have loved Mark Stuart here but prob too late to chuck him in)
Padraig Faulkner
Luke Fortune
Gerry Smith
Killian Clarke
Ciaran Brady

Thomas Galligan
James Smith

Steven Murray
Martin Reilly
Oisin Kiernan

Caoimhin Reilly
Gearoid McKiernan
Oisin Pierson (massive improvement needed from him)

---caoimhan mcgovern first sub in, the lad is quality. Conor Smith worth another look too and hopefully Niall Murray if fit

Caoimhin McGovern no longer on panel. Co board and management didn't realise 18 year olds can't play County Senior.

Is that true? News to me. Was clifford, mcbrearty and co not all playing county senior at 18.
In his 10 minute cameo against Kildare he done more than most of our forwards did over an entire league campaign

Yes true. McBreary played Senior same year as Minor. They changed the rules when restructured Minor to U17s.

Ah ok, i didnt know that myself but i would certainly expect our county board or management to know about such things.
Pity, he could have been a good wildcard from off the bench at the weekend

I read that was true. If we had bet Kildare and him scoring 2 points we probably would have forfeit the game. Thats a fair level of administration incompetence.

He might well be gone from the County, but you said 18 year olds cannot play for the county.

They can.

McGovern couldn't, because of the technicalities in the new rules. He turned 18 in August.
