A GAA club in Monaghan says it is ‘deeply disappointed’ after re-turn logo bottles valued at around €200 were stolen from its grounds recently.
An individual was captured on CCTV stealing bottles and cans from secure return bins at the Éire Óg GAA grounds in Smithboro. It comes after the club had installed four re-turn bins in an effort to raise funds for its juvenile section. Under the re-turn scheme, every can or bottle with the correct logo or barcode that is donated to the club is worth between 15 and 25c..
The club has reported the theft to the Gardaí and is urging other sports groups to be aware of the perpetrator who was believed to be driving a brown 2009-registered Renault Megane.
An Éire Óg club spokesperson said: "We were deeply disappointed when we noticed the theft of our bottle return bins, which were part of our fundraising initiative for our juvenile teams.”
