Gowna reclaimed the Cavan senior football championship title after sweeping aside holders Kingscourt Stars on a 4-17 to 0-14 scoreline at Kingspan Breffni this afternoon.
Vinny Corey’s side took control early, with Oisin Pierson and Seanie Hartin finding the net before Conor Casey added a third goal to establish a commanding 3-9 to 0-7 half-time lead.
Ryan Donohoe, Conor Brady and Cian Madden helped keep the scoreboard ticking over, while Kingscourt struggled to break down a disciplined Gowna defence.
Pierson’s two-pointer further underlined Gowna’s dominance after the restart, with Odhran Madden also on target as the winners maintained a commanding advantage.
Cillian Brady capped an outstanding defensive display by scoring Gowna’s fourth goal, with Tiarnan Madden and substitute Robbie Fitzpatrick adding late scores.
The victory avenged last year’s final defeat and secured Gowna’s third Oliver Plunkett Cup success since 2022, setting up an Ulster club SFC quarter-final meeting with Crossmaglen Rangers who captured their 48th title in the Orchard County today with a five-point victory over Killeavy.
