Plans to develop and increase the capacity of Tuam Stadium have been boosted by the news that a deal on the use of an adjacent two-acre site owned by Galway County Council could soon be struck.

Galway Bay FM is reporting that the local authority is willing to lease Browne’s Field to Galway GAA on a long-term basis. The Development Advocates for Tuam Stadium have also sought Galway County Council’s support for the ongoing development of what many consider to be the spiritual home of Galway football.

In recent years, a new stand to replace the old ‘hayshed’ was constructed with the help of a €350,000 donation from the late Joe and Helen O’Toole of O’Toole’s Tuam. But in spite of this and other improvements which have taken place to bring it up to modern standards, Tuam Stadium continues to lose out to Pearse Stadium when it comes to hosting the Galway senior footballers’ home games.
