Longford handed Carlow their first loss of the Allianz Football League campaign to move up to second in the Division 4 table.
The Midlanders were 1-19 to 1-14 winners at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, where James Moran’s late goal was followed up by points from Dylan Farrell (free) and Patrick Moran to put a seal on their team’s third league victory.
Looking for their fifth straight win, Carlow had edged a 0-5 to 0-4 lead 20 minutes in before Oran Kenny (2) and Matthew Carey got a couple of two-pointers that ushered the hosts towards a 0-11 to 1-7 lead at the break, with Chris Blake netting for the Barrowsiders on 32 minutes.
Conor Doyle’s two-pointer steered the visitors in front before they fell behind to Patrick Moran and Matthew Flynn scores at other end and then levelled through a long-range Mikey Bambrick effort ahead of Longford registering their late 1-2 for the win which puts them right in the frame for promotion with two rounds remaining.
Tipperary are a point behind the Midlanders in the table after brushing aside Leitrim with a 1-18 to 0-8 victory in Clonmel.
Sean O’Connor registered the game’s only goal 10 minutes before half-time, when Tipp went in with a 1-12 to 0-5 advantage, and two-pointers from Steven O’Brien and O’Connor would help to push the margin out to 13 points come the final whistle.
Elsewhere, London condemned Waterford to their fifth straight defeat of the campaign by recording a 3-16 to 2-12 win in Ruislip, where Ciaran Diver, Micheál O’Reilly and Jim Davis (1-4) got the home side’s goals.
