'Dirty belt' on Mullen still rankles with Shefflin

Henry Shefflin is still annoyed over the ‘dirty belt’ which looks set to rule Adrian Mullen out of the remainder of Ballyhale Shamrocks’ club campaign.

The Kilkenny star sustained a broken thumb following an incident involving Charlie Mitchell in Ballyhale’s Leinster club SHC quarter-final victory over Kilcormac/Killoughey, and watched last Sunday’s semi-final defeat of Clough/Ballacolla from the sideline after undergoing surgery. But even if Mullen had been fit, he would have still missed the game after being slapped with a retrospective one-match ban along with K/K’s Mitchell and Cillian Kiely for contributing to a post-match melee.

“He has a broken thumb, he had a dirty belt the last day,” Ballyhale boss Shefflin complained.

“It was very upsetting for Adrian. I don’t mind a lad getting an injury if it is fair, but the injury on Adrian was unfair.

“It was a dirty blow and he’s gone. He has broken his thumb and has got pins in it.”
