Tough task against in-form Fermanagh U21s
March 21, 2002
Donegal despite being at home in MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey have it all to do to overcome neighbours, Fermanagh in the opening round of the Ulster under-21 football championship on Saturday next.
The Donegal side coached by senior team-boss, Mickey Moran have been working hard in training in recent weeks and can call on a number of players who have been in excellent form with the senior side in recent weeks. These include key forwards Colm McFadden and Christy Toye and big midfielder Kevin Rafferty who will be expected to give leadership to their playing colleagues in this vital championship clash on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking about the game the Donegal manager, Mickey Moran said his side have been working hard in training and in challenge games, and know they will have to turn on a big performance to defeat what he rates a very talented Fermanagh side.
Moran said that home advantage is a boost, but at the end of the day his team will have to perform to their very best to cause an upset. He added the morale in the camp is excellent and he added if he gets a team performance on this occasion, then an upset could be on the cards.
The three under-21 players on the senior panel could also be in action on the Sunday when Cork are attractive visitors to Ballybofey in a important National Football League clash.
A busy weekend for these youngsters and their manager, but one they are all eagerly looking forward to. A double success over the two days would finish off the weekend in some style all round for the Donegal football which got a major boost recently with the defeat of highly rated Tyrone in the National Football League.
