Dean Rock scoring machine and eight-time All-Ireland SFC winner Dean Rock has announced his inter-county retirement.
Son of the legendary Barney, the Ballymun Kickhams sharpshooter bows out as Dublin's all-time leading scorer. He was handed his senior debut by Pat Gilroy in 2012 and went on to become Dublin's free-taker during their six-in-a-row run from 2015 and 2020. Rock, who will turn 34 next month, said in a statment that “the time has come for me to hang up the Blue jersey & end my playing career with the Dublin Senior Football team.
“I now step aside fulfilled, knowing that I made the most of the opportunity that was given to me.”
He also thanked his club, his family, team-mate and the Dublin supporters.
“I’ve made special memories with each one of you from our time together that I will cherish forever. Thank you for your devotion to Dublin GAA & giving it your all.
“To Dessie, James & all the lads the very best of luck for the season ahead. With every ending there is a new beginning. I look forward to seeing what that will bring.”
