Keaney retires from Dublin duty after two decades

April 19, 2021

Dublin's Conal Keaney.

Conal Keaney has announced his inter-county retirement at the age of 38.

Having made his debut with the county’s hurlers back in 2001, Keaney would go on to be part of the Dublin side which captured the 2013 Leinster senior hurling championship title.

Previous to that, the Ballyboden St Enda’s dual star was involved in five Leinster senior football final victories with the Dubs between 2004 and 2010.

He switched codes again in 2011 and was key to his county's National League triumph under Anthony Daly, as the capital men also went on to reach the All-Ireland SHC semi-finals that summer.

Having announced his inter-county retirement in 2016, Keaney was persuaded to return to hurling duty the following year by Pat Gilroy.

He signed off on social media this morning by tweeting: "Thanks for a great 20 years @dublingaa. It was a great journey but the time has come."
