SLEVINS COACHES INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP:
Crookedwood 2-11 Fr. Daltons 1-08
The final of the Slevins Coaches Intermediate Hurling Championship took place on Saturday last in Cusack Park between Crookedwood and Fr. Daltons. which was the first time the sides met in the final. The build up to this match had everyone expection a cracker, but in truth it was far from such.
The game, played in front of a small crowd was at times lifeless and flat and only came to life for a ten minute spell midway through the second half. Right from the off Crookedwood took control and were sharper and hungrier with Barry O' Meara opening theri account from a free in the third minute. Points from Noel Yourell and a second from O' Meara opened up a three point lead. Fr. Daltons for some reason couldn't just get into the game as The Wood put them under pressure and it took them until the thirteenth minute to register their first score, a point from Robert Dillon. Two Fr Daltons Points from Hickey and an off form Mackey divided by one from Ronan Scally meant that there was the bare minimum between the sides as we approached the break, O'Mears poped over his third of the half in the twenty nineth minute as The Wood led by 0-05 to 0-03 at the break.
Crookedwood again starter the brighter of the two sides after the interval with O' Meara notching his fourth in the first minute. Fr Daltons came more into the game as expected and when full forward Pat Hickey found the net it was game on , Mackey added a ponit a minute later an the Ballymore side took the lead for the first time. The introduction of Johnny Orme on The Wood side would have a major outcome on this match as within minutes coming on he had blasted home the games second goal after good interplay between O' Meara and Henry Reilly. This seemed to kill of the Fr.Daltons challange as the the Wood stamped their superiority on the game and when Orme netted for the second crookedwood goal in injury time ther was no way back for Fr,Daltons, and The Wood broke a long seven year drought.
SLEVINS COACHES JUNIOR HURLING A FINAL 2011
The original fixture for this match was in Novenber last year but had to be posponed due to bad weather, Clonkill eventually got the better of Lough Lene Gaels to clain victory last weekend in a high scoring match. Clonkill took and early lead and had racked up four goals in the first half as The Gaels defence struggled, but in true gaels fashion they fought back and but for the fact that a Derek McNicholas penalty was saved on The Gaels the result might have been somewhat different. Incidentally if one studies the lineouts for this match you could be forgiven for thinking it was a senior championship clash.
JASCA SPORTS INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL FINAL
Next weekend in Cusack Park Mullingar the Final of the 2012 Intermediate Football Championship takes place between Castletown Finea/Coole/Whitehall and Caulru. This is the second final appearance for Castletown Finea/Coole/Whitehall in as many years and they will be hoping to make it this time having come so close last year. They got the better of rosemount in their semi-final albeit playing badly and cannot afford to turn in a repeat performance if they hope to win and of course they will be realishing the prospect of promotion to senior ranks. Caulry on the other hand also topped the division and overcame a very stiff challenge from Tubberclair in the semi-final but based on their performances this year we can expect a close encounter in this one. Caulry have a number of fine footballers in their squad and will need big performances from Kevin Maguire, Ben Moran and Gary Flanagan if they are to win this one, while Castletown Finea/Coole/Whitehall will be looking to Kevin Brazil, Niall Kilcoyne and Daniel McDermott to guide them home.
KC SPORTS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL
The final of this year's championship takes place next weekend between the Kilbeggan Shamrocks and Mullingar Shamrocks/ Moate All Whites., while both sides will be looking to get to Intermediate level next year, Kilbeggan Shamrocks will be hoping to claim victory after losing out by a single point in the semi-final last year. When these sides met in the championship earlier Milltownpass won on a scoreline of 2-08 to 0-08 and both sides had convincing wins in their semi-finals. This one could go right down to the wire.
SHAY MURTAGH SENIOR FOOTBALL
MullingarShamrocks claimed the second final place last weekend when they overcame neighbours St. Lomans by three points in the semi final replay. This a tetchy afair with yellow cards in double figers and two players one from each side recieving their marching orders on straight red's and a serious lack of any free flowing football, all that being said Mullingar Shamrocks were the better side and will noo doubt relish the challange with Garycastle in the final.
