Galway Hurling Club - Boston 100 year anniversary
October 08, 2010
The Galway Hurling Club of Boston is the oldest hurling club in America celebrating 100 years in 2010.
Early years saw the club grow and success came infrequently. In 1959 with the founding of the North American County Board under Croke Park control, The Galway Hurling Club of Boston thrived on and off the field as both a social outlet and a successful hurling team. Many members and players have spent time with the club, some for short summer stints others have adopted the club in place of their home towns and villages back in Ireland. Indeed the Club provides important sports, cultural and networking benefits that are vital living abroad - it is the club's members that provide this with hurling as the pivot point.
We are inviting all members here in the US and back in Ireland who are or have been associated with the club to join us in celebrating this our centenary year. On 19 March 2011, the Galway Hurling Club will be hosting a banquet at Florian Hall in Dorchester,
Massachusetts to commemorate this special occasion. Many of you may have hurled and worked in Boston for the summer with the club and now we are asking to consider a return of sorts in any way that you can.
If you are interested in attending or in donating to the club via an ad in our keepsake advertisement book, please contact Peter Murray, Chairman at
