Senior Hurling Begins in Boston
June 19, 2013

Ardrahan native Shane Howley leads the attack for Fr. Tom Burke's in their clash against the Galway Hurling Club.
The Boston senior hurling championship began on Sunday with all 4 teams in action. Tipperary and Galway were the big winners over Wexford and Fr. Tom Burke's respectively.
Tipperary had David Butler to thank for an early goal that set them on their way while Wexford missed several scoring chances to keep the game from getting away from them. Wexford made a game of it in the second half with a goal from Eoghan Kavanagh, but Tipp were able to clam down on the Slaneysiders and come out with a 5 point win, 2-11 to 1-19.
Galway looked impressive in their 13 point win over Fr. Tom Burke's. After a fairly close first half Galway pulled away in the second with all of the forwards and both midfielders, Paddy Grace and Bobby Bergin, getting on their names on the scoresheet.
The senior football competiton continued with Christopher's getting a big win over Aidan McAnespies. It was a tremendous game with McAnespies almost overturning a 13 point deficit, but Christopher's managed to stay ahead and win by 5 points in the end. Wolfe Tones got their first win of the season on their third attempt against Donegal. The Tones worked hard against a dogged Donegal and ended up on the winning side of a 0-14 to 0-9 score.
In the Orla Benson Cup, Boston Shamrocks pulled off a two point win over Tír na nÓg to win a place in the final. The Shamrocks will face the Connacht Ladies in the decider.
Next weekend, June 22, we look forward to the visit of all 4 junior C hurling teams to the Irish Cultural Center in Canton Mass. Four clubs from four different states, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, will play Saturday afternoon. The Portland Hurling Club (Maine) will face Hartford (Connecticut) while the Worcester (Mass.) will meet the current North American champions, Barley House Wolves from Concord New Hampshire. It promises to be a great day of hurling!
