Get involved in GAA at British Universities

September 22, 2010
British Universities GAA (BUGAA) has been established since 1991 and therefore is in existence for nearly 20 years, during which time Gaelic Games have become a well established aspect of the Universities sports curricula with an active programme of League & Championship activities in Gaelic Football (Mens and Ladies), Hurling, Camogie, and also interacting with Shinty in annual internationals. British Universities winners progress to tournaments in Ireland such as the Trench, Ryan and Lynch Cups in respective codes.

These activities are significant not only in respect of playing of our games, but also because of the wider social significance for Irish students in Britain, who find in these games an environment of friendliness and fulfilment from a social and cultural viewpoint during their higher education abroad. Also continued contact with Gaelic games during the time at university increases (a) the likelihood of a return to home after graduation, and (b) the level of playing proficiency when returning back to Ireland which benefits their local communities and the Irish economy.

For all prospective Irish students we at BUGAA look forward to providing an excellent programme of games in whatever sport you are involved in at your University, and therefore on arrival in England, Scotland or Wales please get in touch with myself, George O Rourke or Shane O Hanlon whose contact details appear below.
