An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. Notes
U-8 and U-10 Tournament
One of the biggest underage events ever held at Páirc Thír na nÓg took place last Saturday when An Mhaigh G.A.C. hosted our annual Under 8 and Under 10 Football tournament. Upwards of 350 young players from four different counties - Tyrone, Armagh, Down and Derry - joined with a huge number of volunteers and spectators in making this a truly memorable occasion.
Once again, so much credit must go to our outstanding Youth Officer Marty Conroy, his youth committee and large band of club volunteers who pulled out all the stops in recent weeks to make this latest event and the Under 12 tournament two weeks previous a resounding success. Marty gave the following report of how things panned out on Saturday past:
"The clubs which took part in our U-8 and U-10 tournament were: Moy, Dungannon, Errigal Ciaran, Killyclogher and Edendork from Tyrone; Burren and Clonduff from County Down; Derrymacash Wolfe Tones from County Armagh; and Newbridge from County Derry. Every club played at least four games at 'A' and 'B' level in both age groups. We had eight pitches hosting games simultaneously throughout the day and our team of dedicated referees and score-keepers were never allowed a minute's rest!
"Everybody who helped out with preparing food, refreshments, stewarding and just lending a hand in any little way ensured that the day was a complete success. Every player, coach, parent and supporter was well looked after and hopefully went home with a little story to tell from their day in the Moy.
"Unfortunately, a young player from the Burren club sustained a knee injury in one of the games but received excellent medical attention on the pitch before he was transferred to hospital by ambulance. Thankfully, the young lad's injury wasn't too serious and he will be back on his feet soon.
"The winners on the day at Under 8 level were Clonduff who received the Tír na nÓg Cup after defeating Errigal Ciaran in the final on a combined A and B score of 14 points to 9. Meanwhile, the Moy under 8's defeated our neighbours Dungannon in a closely fought shield final on a combined A and B score of 16 points to 14.
"The under 10 competition for the Father Soraghan cup saw Errigal Ciaran get some measure of revenge when they defeated Clonduff in the decider on a combined A and B score of 16 points to 15. Clonduff staged a truly remarkable comeback after they had been defeated 9-2 in the 'B' game. They had actually overtaken Errigal in the 'A' game only for the Tyrone side to pull through in the final stages.
"The Shield final was won by Newbridge who defeated Derrymacash Wolfe Tones on a combined A and B score of 18 points to 10 points. Our club secretary Mary Daly presented each of the winning teams, runners-up and outstanding individual players with their awards to round off an amazing day."
ACL Senior Division 1
An Mhaigh v An Charraig Mhór
An Mhaigh senior footballers ended their Division One campaign for 2009 last Sunday with a home game against league and championship title hopefuls Carrickmore. With Moy's senior status already secured for another year, our management used this end-of-season fixture to give a number of reserve and minor footballers their chance to gain some vital experience against a top senior side.
While the result was somewhat inevitable, Carrickmore winning comfortably on a scoreline of 3-17 to 0-3, the Tír na nÓgs will still have been glad to have blooded no fewer than six of this year's minor team against vastly experienced and top quality opposition in this first division clash. Having just been promoted back into the senior ranks at the start of this year, the Moy management and players can reflect on a satisfactory season and hope for even bigger and better things ahead in 2010.
Team & Scorers: Nathan Brady; Philip McQuade, Francie McQuade, Adrian O'Neill; Cormac O'Neill, Niall Conlon, Adam Currie; Tommy McNicholl (captain) and Anthony Rafferty; Hugo Mackle, Martin Conroy, Eunan Deeney (0-1, 1 free); Tommy Conlon (0-2), Ryan O'Neill, Turlough McKearney. Subs used: Donal Jordan (40 mins), Eoghan O'Neill (40 mins), Paddy McKeown (45 mins) and Mark Gribbin (45 mins).
Final League Position: Played 15, Won 4, Drawn 5, Lost 6, Points 13. Meanwhile, best wishes to all four of our senior county players who have either undergone recent operations or who are about to go under the knife very soon. We look forward to having them all back in action again for the start of next season!
Under 13 League
An Mhaigh v Eochair
Having already qualified for the league semi-finals, with three wins from their opening three games, the management of An Mhaigh Under 13 footballers took the opportunity to play a lot of their younger and inexperienced players in the final group match at home to Augher on Thursday 24th September.
The result was a comprehensive Augher victory but it mattered little to the Moy who gave the remaining members of their squad vital game time and still finished joint top of section 3A. Although it was tough going on the night, Ryan Casey and Oisin McKeown were among those on the Sky Blue side who excelled in defeat and are now pushing for a starting place in this weekend's big semi-final tie at home to Owen Roes.
Team (v Augher): Tom Loughran; Patrick Mackle, Michael Quinn; Eoghan Kelly, Conor Foster, Paddy Daly; Matthew Collins and Rory Magee; Oisin McKeown, Mark Regan, Callum Nugent; Ryan Casey, Jordan Conroy. Subs: Ryan Coleman, Lorcan O'Hanlon, Eoin Kelly, Declan Conroy, Philip Mallon, Francie Kelly, Patrick Lavery, Shay Armstrong and Liam Lynch.

Galbally club notes
VERY SENIOR MENS FOOTBALL
Pride of place in this weekÄôs notes goes to our MasterÄôs team who captured the Vincent Gormley Memorial Cup against neighbours Donaghmore in a fast flowing game of football last Thursday evening. Despite the expanding waist lines of a few players, the teams served up an entertaining encounter that had the large crowd entertained to the end. The final score read 1-4 to 0-6 with the all important goal being scored by me, although I did miss a sitter before hand. Thank you very much to the Gormley family and the Carrickmore club for inviting us along to the tournament and we look forward to defending the title next year.
SENIOR MENS FOOTBALL
The senior finished off their season with a home win against Trillick on Sunday. The win means the senior side finished 6th in division 1 of the league. The reserves have also finished up their season. Thanks to all the players, managers and assistants for all their hard work throughout the year. All the players can now enjoy a good long rest and can look forward to a promising 2010.
SENIOR LADIES FOOTBALL
Congratulations to the Senior Ladies who won the All Irelands 7s Shield at the weekend hosted by Naomh Mearnog in Dublin. After a great game of 7s football the ladies proudly took back the winners shield to Galbally. Well done to all involved. The league final date has still yet to be decided so training continues Wednesday 6.30pm.
YOUTH FOOTBALL
The boys U16s lost out to a strong Loughmacrory side in the Championship at the weekend on a score line of 0-16 to 1-08. The defeat signalled the end of the season for the lads but with great promise been shown the players can expect to be challenging again next year. Well done to all the lads and the managers. The U13 continue to show good form and accounted for Carrickmore in the last round of the league on Thursday evening. They have now qualified for the semi final of the league and play the winners of Ardboe and Naomh Mhuire at home this Saturday the 3rd of October at 11am. As the underage season draws to a close and with the onset of darker evenings parents are asked to be extra vigilant regards road safety especially with children walking to and from football field -¬ ideally all children should be collected on time after training or games from the football field.

An Chárraig Mhór club notes
The eagerly awaited Senior Championship clash with Dromore takes place this Sunday 4th October at 7.30pm in Healy Park under lights. We had a run-away victory over Moy in the league on Sunday and it was a matter of getting that out of the way to address the real business of the championship. Good luck to all involved. The reserves fell heavily to Errigal Ciaran in the Reserve Championship Final played at Galbally on Saturday. Lining out with many young players we were never in it but the experience will stand to all those involved in future years. Our senior ladies await details of the play-offs and the league semi-final. The U-13s played Galbally at home last Thursday night ant turned in a much improved performance to end their season. Thanks to all the players and to Barry, Mark and Pearse for all their commitment. Youth coaching is now finished for the year on the Thursday night slot. The Vincent Gormley Masters tournament has reached its final stage last week with Galbally defeating rivals Donaghmore in the final on Thursday night. In a tough battle the winners came out on top by the narrowest of margins to claim the Vincent Gormley Memorial Cup which was presented to Galbally captain Sean Quinn. Thanks to O'Neill Sportswear who sponsored commemorative t-shirts for the runners up and winners and to the Old Charm Inn for sponsoring the after-match meal. Thanks also to referees Aidan Coney, Mickey Mc Cann and Shane Dorrity. All proceeds to go to local cancer charities. The Adrian Knight show in the Patrician Hall proved to be a resounding success with a full house in what turned out to be a great nights' entertainment.
