Owens takes charge of home club
February 01, 2012
Former Offaly hurling star Danny Owens has been appointed manager of his native Kilcormac/Killoughey for the coming season.
The 1981 and '85 All-Ireland winner, who is the current Offaly County Council chairman and was seen by US president Barack Obama's side during his historic visit to Moneygall last May, takes over from Pat Joe Whelahan, who failed to replicate the phenomenal success he enjoyed with Birr with the Double Ks.
Owens, whose selectors will be Jimmy Dunne and Tommy Bracken, guided Kilcormac/Killoughey to the Offaly MHC title last year so is well up to speed with happenings in the club. One of his greatest achievements as a player was captaining the Faithful County to their sole NHL triumph over Wexford in 1991.
