Laois manager Teddy McCarthy was 'surprised' by his side's performance last weekend.

The O'Moore County defeated DIT in the Walsh Cup last Sunday, despite only having trained since January 3rd. Laois turned out a superlative performance to set up a meeting with Dublin this weekend and McCarthy was in no doubt surprised by how well his players were up to the speed with the game.

"Realistically it was a bit of a surprise. Really, we only went back training on January 3rd. The likes of the colleges would be as fit as they ever will be this time of year because they are playing the Fitzgibbon (Cup) in a few weeks time," McCarthy explained to the Leinster Express.

"The most pleasing point of the whole lot is the way we held in there. We stuck to our task right throughout the game." Tweet
