Aughawillan 1-13
St. Mary's, Kiltoghert 1-10
There were great scenes in Carrick-on-Shannon this afternoon after Aughawillan defeated holders St. Mary's to be crowned Leitrim senior football champions for the first time since 1994.
Gary Plunkett produced a man of the match display as the Willies sealed a deserved victory thanks to Sean Flanagan's late penalty goal after Plunkett had been taken down. Daire Farrell's point had Mary's 0-3 to 0-2 up early on, but with Ciaran Gilheaney, Morgan Quinn and Plunkett in fine scoring form, Sean Pierson's men rallied to lead by 0-9 to 0-4 at the break.
They extended their advantage on the restart before Robbie Lowe's 37th minute goal brought Kiltoghert back into it. The holders had got to within two points before Flanagan's late penalty secured the silverware for the Willies.
