Mulligan points finger of blame - at himself

Tyrone's Owen Mulligan and Ciaran Fitzpatrick of Kildare during the opening round of the NFL Div 2 at Croke Park
Owen Mulligan says he has nobody to blame but himself for walking out on Tyrone last year.

The Cookstown ace was back to his brilliant best at Croke Park on Saturday night as he inspired Mickey Harte's new-look team to victory over Kildare and the rejuvenated 30-year-old looks back on his self-imposed intercounty exile with regret:

"I walked away last year because I didn't feel I had anything more to offer," he says in The Sun.

"But when you put the head down, you see that you can maybe get back into it and you do have more to offer.

"The lads are all good lads and you like playing with them and I did miss it. The joy definitely did go out of it. It was the wrong time to walk away but I just felt I had nothing more to offer.

"I definitely don't feel like that now. Obviously, you're getting on and you've made a bit of a sacrifice to train and go harder. It definitely does help you.

"You sort of blame other people, but you have to look in the mirror and blame yourself.

"I just decided myself to catch myself on and take a look at myself. There's not many years left playing for Tyrone and it's an honour."
