FL3: Longford plunge Faithful into crisis
February 05, 2012
Offaly football hit a new low when they suffered a 13-point defeat at the hands of an impressive Longford side at Pearse Park.
Longford 2-15
Offaly 0-8
New Faithful County boss Gerry Cooney could only look on as the home side - who were without star forward Brian Kavanagh - ran riot in the second half. Such an outcome could not have been predicted in the early stages when Offaly matched the home side stride for stride, but Paul Kelly's 27th minute goal gave Longford a 1-6 to 0-6 cushion at the break.
Offaly managed just two points in the second half as Glenn Ryan's charges - who were inspired by ace free-taker Sean McCormack who finished with a personal tally of 0-10 - took complete control. A good day for Longford got even better when Niall Mulligan came off the bench to fire home their second goal after another substitute, Donal McElligott, laid off a perfect pass.
