Geevagh club notes
October 12, 2010
Hard luck to our minor girls who were beaten by St Farnans in the Minor B championship final last Saturday.
Fitness for Fun classes commence again on Tuesday next 13th October at 8pm in Geevagh Resource Centre.
Our U20 men played their first game in the championship against Shamrock Gaels in Geevagh on Saturday evening last. The Pat Reilly managed team had to start the game with 11 men, as a number of players were unavailable. At the commencement of the second half we had the full compliment but then lost the influential James Cawley and Tomás O'Reilly through injury. However the lads put up a great fight and were only a point in arrears at half time. The lads hit the front in the first minute of the second half when Michael O'Rourke combined with Stephen Mullaney who laid it off to Pat Hughes who stormed through the Gales defence and placed the ball in the back of the net. The Gaels responded with 2 points to go level again.
Shamrock Gaels added two more points from frees but Geevagh responded with points from Joe Kilcullen and a Pat Hughes 45 in the 25th minute. The Gaels then had a great goal chance but great defending from Sean O'Rourke and Shane Hargadon kept them at bay. A minute later stand in goalie Ben Hughes got down to save a certain goal and keep us in the game. However our eleven men tired in the last few minutes and the Gaels added 2 more points to win on a scoreline of Geevagh 1-7 Shamrock Gaels 0.12. Geevagh scorers: Pat Hughes 1-4(2f), Keith McGrath 0-2(f) Joe Kilcullen.
They now face St. Molaise Gaels on Sunday morning next in Geevagh at 12 noon.
Best of luck to John Bruen and Eastern Harps as they take on St. Bridgets of Roscommon in Kiltoom on Sunday next.
