Ballyskenagh-Killavilla GAA club notes

November 25, 2013
1988 Killavilla Junior A Champions 25 year Anniversary Celebration Night: Ballyskenagh-Killavilla GAA Club recently celebrated 25 years since the Killavilla team of 1988 won the Junior A Championship. 25 years ago on a wet October 28th 1988 in Birr, the hurlers of Killavilla won the Junior A County Final, beating Clara on a score line of 1-05 to 0-04.

This was only Killavilla's second county final victory, the first being 32 years previously in 1956. The occasion was remembered and celebrated in Racket Hall on the night by most of the members of the panel and management, along with players and management from today's teams. Each of the players were introduced on the night by Christy King, who was captain of the victorious team that day. Each member of the panel & management received a specially produced DVD of the match, which was presented on the night by the guest of honour, former Offaly All-Ireland winner and manager Joe Dooley. The club would like to say a special word of thanks to Joe Dooley for talking time to attend our celebration night. Ballyskenagh-Killavilla GAA Club decided to mark the 25 year anniversary by making a donation of €500 to the Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin. A raffle which was also held on the night was very generously supported by all those in attendance, resulting in an additional €510 being raised. A cheque for the total amount of €1010 was presented by the club to Oliver Douglas on behalf of Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin.

Thanks to all who helped with this very worthwhile collection. Winners of the prizes on the night were: Pauline O'Toole (Hamper-Roscrea Credit Union), Marie Maloney(One4All Gift Voucher-Roscrea Post Office), John Hogan (Meal Voucher-Racket Hall Hotel), Tom O'Toole (Voucher-Moran's Menswear), Liam Meagher (Voucher-Movie Time Roscrea), Una Dooley (Jacket-Eugene King), Margaret Maloney (Voucher-Spar/Esso), Mark Fitzpatrick (Goodie bag-Spencer Spillane), Agnes King (Torch-Oliver Douglas), Kevin Tuohy (Bottle of whiskey-Bryan Buckley).
