Monaghan and Latton star Owen Duffy

Latton 1-11, Magheracloone 1-11.

Even extra time could not separate these sides in this very entertaining sudden death play-off that was played under lights in Inniskeen on Saturday evening last. Magheracloone were forced to play without the services of Tomas Freeman whose appeal against the red card he incurred in their previous outing was unsuccessful but two of their emerging young stars Paudie McMahon and Alan McCaghey stepped up to the plate to compensate for his absence and contributed handsomely to a fine team performance. Magheracloone led at half-time by 1-8 to 0-6, Paudie McMahon  with the goal in the 21st minute. A goal by Owen Lennon towards the end of the third quarter kick started a late Latton revival and they hit three unanswered points in the final minutes to level the game and force extra time with the score at 1-10 apiece. In extra time Latton continued their wasteful ways that saw them rack up a total of 22 wides but the sides could only manage one point each in extra time and so the issue goes to a replay. Scorers: Latton: O Duffy 0-4 (1f), O Lennon 1-1, T Lynch, D O'Brien, S Fitzpatrick, A Farmer, D McElroy and D Duffy 0-1 each. Magheracloone: P McMahon 1-2, A McCaghey 0-5 (2f), J Ward 0-2, P Finnegan and M Metzger 0-1 each. Referee: N McKenna (Emyvale).

Ballybay 0-15, Clontibret 2-9.

Ballybay and Clontibret have to do it all again after they finished all square at the end of this totally absorbing contest that was played in glorious conditions in the excellently appointed St. Mary's Park, Castleblayney, on Saturday afternoon last. The big talking point before the game was if Conor McManus would play any part but he did, and a substantial one, as he finished top scorer with seven points, five from frees. This was a game that ebbed and flowed throughout, Ballybay shading the exchanges early on but Clontibret going on to lead at half-time by two points, but then having to fight back to parity early in the second-half as Ballybay again established a foothold. It took a second goal to give Clontibret the impetus going into the final quarter but they then suffered a severe setback when Dessie Mone was sent off on a second yellow card and they were fighting a rearguard action as the game built to a dramatic finish with Ballybay snatching the equaliser through top scorer Christopher McGuinness deep into stoppage time. Scorers: Ballybay: C McGuinness 0-7 (3f), P Finlay 0-5 (2f), C Malone 0-2, T Kerr 0-1. Clontibret: C McManus 0-7 (5f), V Corey 2-1, C Boyle 0-1. Referee: D Helferty (Truagh).

Castleblayney 2-11, Truagh 0-6.

A sharper more clinical Castleblayney booked their place in the quarter-final and in the process dumped Truagh out of this year's senior football championship in this low-key, scrappy affair that was played in Emyvale on Saturday evening.  Castleblayneywere never headed in the entire contest, leading at half-time by 0-8 to 0-2, Truagh's normally accurate attack totally  off form. The one-way nature of the contest continued in the second half with goals by Ciaran Hanratty and Mark Kelly having the result wrapped up long before the finish. Scorers: Castleblayney: C Hanratty 1-0, M Kelly 1-0, M McElroy 0-3, B McElroy 0-2 (1f), P Tavey 0-2, D Malone, F Malone, P Greene and D McMahon  0-1 each. Truagh: C McKenna 0-2 (1f), D McKenna 0-2 (1f), R Treanor and A Treanor 0-1 each.

Scotstown 2-15, Monaghan Harps 0-12.

Scotstown who were defeated in last year's final are the first team  through to the semi-final of this year's senior championship when they proved too strong in most departments for Monaghan Harps in this keenly contested and very entertaining quarter-final in St Mellons Park, Truagh yesterday evening. Scotstown were never headed in the entire contest with Darren Hughes in tremendous form and repeatedly driving his side forward, while the accuracy of Conor McCarthy who finished with five points also played a vital part. Scotstown led at half-time by 1-10 to 0-7, Darren Hughes with the goal after 20 minutes and they consolidated further in the second-half despite the best efforts of Fearghal McMahon, Gareth Treanor and Donal Hahessy. Monaghan Harps battled to the finish but any chance of a late turnaround was killed off when substitute Brian McGinnity netted Scotstown's second goal some five minutes before the finish. Scorers: Scotstown: D Hughes 1-2, C McCarthy 0-5 (2f), B McGinnity 1-0, R Beggan 0-3 (3'45's), S Carey 0-2(2f), D McCrudden, R McKenna, D Morgan 0-1 each. Monaghan Harps: G Treanor 0-4, D Hahessy 0-3 (3f), F McMahon 0-3 (2f), C Galligan and A McAnespie 0-1.
