Scotstown bridged a 20-year gap to their last Monaghan SFC success when scoring a comprehensive final victory over Clontibret at Clones yesterday.

An approximate attendance of 5,000 witnessed the Darren Hughes captained outfit finished with 15 points to spare.

Centre-forward Shane Carey took the scoring plaudits for the winners with 2-4 while no blame for the defeat can be placed at the door of Clontibret's county star Conor McManus who accounted for all of his side's tally.

Six points without reply during the second quarter boosted the team in blue and white to a 0-10 to 0-5 interval lead.

They continued where they left off in the second half and a return of 1-3 inside eight minutes of the restart effectively put the end result beyond any doubt.

A goalkeeping error gifted Carey his second goal and Clontibret's woes were compounded when substitute John Paul Mone was shown a straight red card.

There was no let up by Scotstown in the closing stages and three points from Carey (free), man-of-the-match Donal Morgan and Paul Grant capped off a memorable day.
