Kilmainham put themselves in a good position to qualify from Group B of the Intermediate Football championship with this seven point win over Castletown at Moynalty.
Moynalty had their pitch in fine condition for this important match. The opening half was a very equal encounter with the teams going in level at the interval Kilmainham 1-05 Castletown 0-08. Michael Newman accounted for 1-4 of the winners opening half tally. His brother Denis also got on the scoreboard.
The second-half was a high-tempo affair with Kilmainham blitzing Castletown in the early exchanges with fine points from Seanie Mahon, Paul Farrelly and Michael Newman (2).
A brilliant catch at midfield by Barry Lynch and good interlink play from Ger Morgan and Mark Newman set up the county star who blasted the ball to the back of the net.
Castletown never scored in the final quarter while Kilmainham's Mark Newman, Freddie Newman and Denis Newman all scored fine points to seal a Kilmainham win.
