For the first time in 20 years Young Ireland's St Brendan's claimed the Senior St Patricks Cup in San Francisco. The starting XV included no less than five Meath club footballers, Darren Hawdon and Tommy Rahill from Oldcastle, Danny Quinn and Paddy Kenny from Ballinabrackey and Ballivor's / Kildalkey dual star Noel Kirby. Quinn was top scorer on the day with 1-8.

Here's how the game panned out last Sunday.

Ulster 2-13

This was a thrilling encounter which saw YISB come back from 8 points down with 12 minutes remaining.

The game got off to a blistering pace with Danny Quinn and Colum Callanan knocking over some early points for YISB. Ulster replied with ex Tyrone star Snowy O'Neill clipping over a couple of points.
YISB went into a 5-2 lead but then Ulster took control of the game in the last 15 minutes of the half.
Austy McKenna playing a playmakers role, set up 4 points in a row which seen Ulster take a 6-5 lead.
With half time approaching Ulster were rewarded a penalty. From the resulting kick, McKenna hit the bar and fisted it over from the rebound.

Half time Ulster 0-9 YISB 0-7.

YISB made the quicker start in the second half with points from Danny Quinn, Cathal Keoghan and Colum Callanan to take a 11-9 lead. The next 10 minutes was all Ulster with Gregory Loughran and Seamus Bumble connecting well to set up O'Neill for a goal. Another 1-4 followed for Ulster to race into an eight point lead.

Then the YISB revival started. Oldcastle pair Thomas Rahill and Darren Hawdon lead from the back.
Noel Kirby and Rory Marlow started winning the midfield battle. Clane's Cathal Keoghan claimed the ball on the half way line beat 6 players and finished with a sublime goal. Danny Quinn quickly followed with another goal before Mark McGrath scored the last point of the game.

A huge win for YISB. Their long wait for senior success was over.
