Feis Cup: Seneschalstown ladies claim silverware

October 01, 2013

Seneschalstown's Stacey Grimes beats St Ultans Katie O'Brien to the ball
Seneschalstown 3-16
St Ultans 2-6

This final was a repeat of the county final a few weeks previous with the exception of both team's county players who are not eligible to play Feis Cup.

With both teams even on that front, it was always going to be a tight affair and Ultans would be out to seek revenge for the one point defeat in the County final when Seneschalstown fought back to claim the victory

St Ultan's started off the better of both sides, racing into an early lead with Elaine Duffy showing her experience in the full forward line & giving the Seneschalstown backs a tough task to mark her. Elaine netted twice and was fouled to slot over frees to bring their tally to 2-4 at half time.

Seneschalstown on the other hand were slow to start and were not converting the ball that was going into the forwards with many misplaced passes. However, after half time, Seneschalstown moved it up a gear and we started to see the champions show what they have the ability to do.

With Stacey Grimes running at the defence and slotting over points while on the run with a tally of 7 points to finish the game, to long range pin point passes from former All-star Grainne Nulty into the full forward Amy Gilsenan who combined well with Louise McKeever . In defence, Seanaidh hickey & Lizzy Doran closed down any threats from the Ultans forwards to reduce their second half scores to only 2 points.

While it was a shaky start from the Champions, they finished the game with ease. This is good preparation for their Leinster Semi final which will take place on Oct 13th in Seneschalstown. Their opponents have yet to be decided with that game between the Wexford & Kildare champions taking place this weekend.

Aodhnait McAdam (vice captain) accepted the cup on behalf of the team in the absence of injured Edel McGrane. Another victorious evening for the Ladies from yellow Furze.
