Ratoath 4-7 Trim 5-1
Following a brilliant run in 2012 Ratoath's Intermediate Camogie team got off to a great start with an impressive, hard fought win over Trim on a dull and damp evening in Ratoath. Conditions did not dampen spirits of this team. From the throw in Ratoath displayed some fabulous team work and after 3 minutes Annette O'Hanrahan netted the ball, Trim quickly responded with an equalising goal and it was game on. Although Ratoath held possession and seemed the stronger team Trim managed to pull away and went 5 points ahead but Ratoath settled into their stride and managed to pull back and finished the first half 1 point ahead. The second half had Ratoath playing into the wind but they still managed to extend their lead by another 2 points. Trim were never going to give up and managed to net the ball. So with the sides level and minutes left on the clock there was no way Ratoath were settling for a draw. Ratoath had goal chances but the Trim goalkeeper was outstanding. However after a relentless onslaught on the Trim goal the winning goal came from a huge team effort that started with the Ratoath Captain Sinead Beagan putting a long ball into the forward line, Eimear Griffiths pulled hard and put the sliotor into Mairead Dolan who dutifully ground stroked the ball into the back of the net. This was a super spirited performance made all the more special and unique in that Ratoath fielded Siobhan Gaffney and her twin daugheters Louise and Amy Gaffney with both Siobhan and Amy putting their names on the score board. Siobhan being one our more senior players proved she has plenty left in the tank yet. 21 players played for Ratoath tonight and 21 players gave it their all with some outstanding performances from what is for the most part a very young side.
