Minors Bow Out   Kildare    1-18 Mayo      1-9   The Mayo Minor hurlers crashed out of their All-Ireland 'B' championship at the first hurdle with a convincing loss to a stronger more direct Kildare outfit in McHale Park, Castlebar. Mayo's chief talisman Cathal Freeman accounted for 1-8 of his sides total while substitute Kenny Feeney got Mayo's other score after being introduced in the final ten minutes. Subs: Barry Walsh (Ballina) for McTigue, Risteard Byrne (Tooreen) for T Morley, Joe Flynn (Ballyhaunis) for Fitzgerald, Kenny Feeney (0-1) (Tooreen) for Hunt.   SHC Update In the penultimate round of fixtures in the TJ Tyrell Cup played last Sunday, holders Ballina James Stephens overcame Belmullet by 1-12 to 0-8 to book a semi final spot and to eject the Erris men from this years championship. Tooreen also saw off the challenge of Castlebar Mitchel's in a hard fought game played in Tooreen, before eventually running out 2-13 to 0-8 winners to also book their semi-final spot. The Tooreen goal's came from Adrian Freeman and Kenneth Robinson. The remaining tie of the round between Ballyhaunis and Westport did not take place due to injury problems in the Westport camp.   In the final set of round-robin fixtures pencilled in for next Saturday, Tooreen travel to Belmullet, Castlebar travel to westport while Ballyhaunis host Ballina in a repeat of last years final.     Connacht U21B Hurling Final The Connacht U21B Hurling final between Roscommon and Mayo takes place on Tuesday evening 12th August at 7.30 in Athleague. It will be Mayo's first outing of the year at this grade after Leitrim withdrew >from the competition. Roscommon defeated Sligo by 3-20 to 1-10 last week in their respective semi-final. The round-robin blitz comprises of teams from Mayo, Roscommon, Galway City & Galway Gaeltacht.
