Castlebar and Tooreen contested the Minor A hurling final in ideal conditions at Ballyvary Community Grounds on Monday evening last. Tooreen fielded with a very strong physical team but a hard working and speedy Mitchels were more than a match for their East Mayo opponents. The first half ended level on a score line of Castlebar 1-6, Tooreen 0-9. The first half goal came from industrious wing forward Liam Mullins who kicked the sliotar to the Tooreen net after a long delivery from midfielder Corey Scahill. There was a fantastic display of free taking throughout the half with opposing midfielders Scahill and Fergal Boland hitting over half a dozen long range efforts between the posts.

The second half began with the sides matching each other score for score, with points from Scahill and Abbi Abassi for Castlebar responded to by scores from Ciaran Harrison and Niall Robinson. However the pendulum swung in favour of the Blue and White in the 40th minute when Brian Morley goaled to give his team a three point advantage, 1-11 to 1-8. Further points from Ciaran Harrison and Brian Morley pushed Tooreen further ahead. Castlebar responded with three long range frees from Scahill but they could not breakdown the Tooreen defence and get the goal that their efforts deserved. On the stroke of fulltime Tooreen full-forward Daniel Harrison got their second goal to put the result beyond any doubt. The full-time score read Castlebar 1-12, Tooreen 2-20 meaning that the Minor A Championship Cup returned to East Mayo for another year.

Best for a very young and skilful Castlebar team were Corey Scahill, Naoise Kenny, Liam Mullins, Shane Nugent, Abbi Abassi, Martin Parsons, Ciaran McManamon and Conor Ludden. Tooreen's strongest performers were Daniel Cunnane, Davog Freyne, Fergal Boland, David Harrison, Ciaran Harrison and Brian Morley.
