Geraldines Michael Rogers

GERALDINES 1-13
ST MOCHTAS 1-12

Geraldines moved a step closer to a return to Division 1 when a last minute goal from Michael Rogers gave them a dramatic victory over St Mochtas in the promotion play-off semi-final on Sunday morning.

The game played in Louth Village saw the hosts begin well with two points from Declan Byrne, but it was the Gers who took over at that stage and landed five without reply, with Jim McEneaney, Shane O'Hanlon and Dara Hamill all on target.

However, the Mochtas rallied before the interval and with Darren McMahon and Danny Kindlon among the scorers, they cut the gap to 0-7 to 0-6 at half time.

Although the Gers struck twice at the start of the second half through Hamill and O'Hanlon, the hosts responded once more and with Byrne and Philly Englishby on target, the game was level once again.

Byrne's first point from play soon after put the Louth Village side ahead for the first time before a quick free fell into the hands of Nigel Farrell who slotted it into the back of net.

The Gers gave themselves hope when they cut the gap to two points entering the dying moments before O'Hanlon set up Rogers to fire to the back of the net and snatch a dramatic victory.

The Geraldines will now take on either Clans or Hunterstown for the right to play Dundalk Gaels in the promotion/relegation final.
