After four years finally the City Interdivisional hurling team won their first championship game at interdivisional level and has now reached the final of the county interdivisional championship following their defeated of the West interdivisional team by 1-15 to 1-08 in the county interdivisional championship semi final at Martinstown on Tuesday night last leading at half time by 1-10 to 0-05 with our scores coming from Ballybrown's Alan O Connor with 1-05 with (0-04 from frees) Monaleen's Peter Russell (0-01) Ballybrown's Richie Kenny and Kyle Loftus (0-01) each and Mungret's Patrick Begley hitting our last first half score with a great point from play. In the second half we added five more points from Alan O Connor (0-02) Ballybrown's Shane Kenny (0-01) Peter Russell (0-01) and Mungret's Ritchie Bourke with (0-01) to leave the final score at 1-10 to 1-08 we had great performances from our captain David Lyons in goals our fullback line of James Hall, Des Kenny and Steve Reilly our centre back Damien Cosgrave was outstanding as well as our younger players Patrick Begley and Ritchie Bourke. Board would like to congratulate Ardscoil Rís School on winning the Dr. Harty Cup for the second year running following a great victory 3-19 to 0-03 over Charleville CBS last Sunday at the Limerick Gaelic Grounds. The City divisional players who were involved with the successful Ard Scoil Rís panel were Patrickswell players of Kelvin Lynch, Mark Carmody, Kevin O Brien, Jack Kelleher and Cian Lynch. Na Piarsaigh players of Alan Dempsey, Mark Ryan, Shane Dowling (captain) David Dempsey, Ciaran Keogh, Michael Foley, Kevin McNamara, William O Donoghue and Josh O Halloran. Kildimo Barry O Connell, Crecora Fergal Carey, Mungret Ronan Kirby and Claughaun Evan Fitzgerald. Congratulations to University of Limerick on winning the Fitzgibbon cup in Waterford last weekend defeating Limerick I.T. by 1-17 to 2-11 City Divisional player Thomas O Brien of the Patrickswell's club, who was a second half substitute scored a late goal to win the Fitzgibbon Cup for the Limerick University. Another City divisional player was also in action in Waterford for the Institute of Technology Tralee when they secured a victory over the Carlow Institute of Technology in the Ryan Cup. Ballybrown's Michael Kiely who played very well scored 0-03 in their 1-17 to 1-15 victory. The City G.A.A. Board playing season will get underway on March 19th at 4pm with the Nolan's Motor Factors under 21 hurling championship taking place. In this under 21 championship only four teams are taking part in the championship with Killulta Gaels, Michael Cusack's, Mungret and St. Patrick's with the top two reaching the final on April 9th after three championship rounds. The opening round we will have the following championship games St. Patrick's will entertain Michael Cusack's (Claughaun/Crecora) and Mungret will host Killulta Gaels (Kildimo/ Pallaskenry).
