U12 wrapped up their season with the U12 A Shield.  Well done to all the squad and management on a terrific season.
U10 and U8 welcomed St Ailbe's, Ahane and Murroe to the clubhouse field last Wednesday night.  We had around 120 girls playing football on the night, with excellent skills on display by all teams.  The games were played in a great spirit, with all the teams showing good ability to move the ball well.  The girls have their last training session of the season next Sunday, 11:15-12:15 at the clubhouse field, and will play in another blitz in Murroe the following Wednesday.  They will then break for the summer.

U11 Hurling: Last Thursday our U11 Monaleen Whites team squad played visitors Glenroe in the U12 Hurling League. We quickly found ourselves on the back foot with players packed into our own half. Despite the valiant effort of our very busy goalie Darragh Connaughton, who made some excellent saves (and puck outs!), our defence eventually succumbed to the persistent pressure to leak a number of good goals which saw Glenroe take a significant lead by half-time. At the break we made a number of positional changes which saw our team improve the distribution of the ball and perform stronger in the second half, with some good scores from Max Ivory and Eric Stritch, and smart defensive play by Captain Joseph Fitzgerald and Noel Clancy. Unfortunately we had too much work to do to reel in Glenroe's lead and we lost the game 3-2 to 7-2. Well done to all players on both sides for a hard-working game in which a lot of good lessons were learned. Our next game is at home to Cappamore Thursday 26th June. Training continues on Fridays in Peafield 6pm.

U14 Hurling Championship: Monaleen opened their U14 Championship campaign with a well deserved win over Murroe-Boher. A clinical performance with some excellent long range point taking from Paul Power, Jack Canny and Harry Gleeson were the features of this game, with goals poached by Niall McGrath and David Crampton. This was a win built on solid foundations at the back with William Campbell being called on between the posts to make a couple of excellent saves, while the full- and half-back lines were dominant. Monaleen had a  comfortable 1-9 to 0-3 half-time lead but Murroe-Boher came back well in the third quarter to come within three points, before David Crampton's goal put a comfortable margin between the teams and Caolan Madden and Harry Gleeson rounded off the scoring.
Next up was Ballybrown, who had come into the game with a fine result over Féile champions Garryspillane, so a tough game was expected. Monaleen made sure to get into the pace of the game from the first minute, and soon started pegging off the scores. Cathal McCarthy was imperious in midfield throughout, and his fine display of catching and driving through was inspirational to his teammates. Sean O'Kane had a super game at centre-back, while David McMahon at corner-back was tormenting his opposite number throughout the game, chasing, hooking and blocking and never giving his opponent an inch of room. It was a super performance from start to finish from all players, with the goals coming from Brian O'Donnell, David Crampton, Niall McGrath and Paul Power.
The third game in as many weeks was a trip to Pallasgreen and this was a tough encounter . For no lack of effort, things didn't run too kindly in the first half for Monaleen, with attacks breaking down, and Pallasgreen managing to win more of the ball and work it downfield. At half time Monaleen trailed by 3-3 to 0-1, with a fine Jack Canny point being the only score for the visitors. A fortunate goal for Pallasgreen was the worst possible start to the second half for Monaleen, but from there on, they gave a gutsy performance which saw Monaleen turn things around to show what they can do, winning the half but losing the game 4-5 to 1-6. Monaleen's goal was a thing of beauty with Niall McGrath dispossessing the Pallas corner back as he attempted to make his way upfield, popping the pass to Paul Power who jinked past two opponents before scooping the sliotar over the head of the next defender into David Crampton's hand, who gratefully despatched the ball beyond the goalkeeper to the back of the net. Sean O'Kane showed plenty of talent and bravery in this game, taking a captain's role and leading by example. Eoin Twomey at corner forward grew well into the game as it went on and put in a fine second half display.
Players over the three games : Brian O'Donnell, Caolan Madden, Cathal McCarthy, Cillian Toland, Conor Deegan, David Crampton, David Leahy, David McMahon, Donal Hannon, Eoin Twomey, Evan Costelloe, Harry Gleeson, Jack Canny, Jason Aylward, John Toland, Micheál O'Hanrahan, Morgan Connolly, Niall McGrath, Paul Power, Paul Ross, Seán O'Kane, William Campbell

U16 hurling: Training continues on Sunday afternoons 3pm, clubhouse pitch

MONALEEN CAMOGIE:
Camogie U12: Our U12 girls continued their recent good run of form with a great win away to Na Piarsaigh on Thursday 12th June. With two evenly matched sides, the home team were first to score with a goal and a point from play, followed by a well taken Monaleen goal from Ella Hession. In the second half Monaleen regained the upper hand with a long range goal from Ciara McDonnell and Ella Hession found the back of the net again with another great goal to put the visitors 5 points ahead with 10 minutes to go. However, Na Piarsaigh kept the pressure on with a point followed by a Monaleen point from Eimar Morgan. Na Piarsaigh finished with a late goal to leave it Monaleen 3-1 Na Piarsaigh 2-2. Well done girls! Our last league match will be next Thursday the 19th when we are at home to Patrickswell. We also look forward to hosting Castlegar from Galway who will be fielding U11 and U13 teams when they visit Monaleen on Sunday 22nd June.
