Supporting the GAA
September 02, 2010
Sponsorship within the GAA is one of the most important aspects of running any team in the organisation, whether it is a school, club or county team, all need the relative financial backing to ensure they can compete.
During the current economic climate, raising these funds is not near as easy as it use to be as some clubs and county boards struggle to manage their ever increasing debts.
Each year there seems to be added expense for clubs and county boards to contend and raising the necessary finances to stay afloat has become an annual struggle for some and it is a situation that needs to be addressed within the GAA.
Fortunately, there are still some companies out there that are still in a position to give financial backing to the GAA and in this month's edition of the Hogan Stand, we profile one such firm.
The MW Hire Group is based in Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny, and has been involved in many GAA sponsorship deals in both its native county and its latest venture as the main sponsor to Laois minor, under-21 and senior inter-county teams in both hurling and football. The company has also sponsored clubs including Fenians of Johnstown, home to MW Hire owner Matty Walsh.
Despite, being based in Kilkenny, the MW Hire Group could be described as a mixed bunch as the employees take in the surrounding counties leading to plenty of banter during the GAA season.
The name MW Hire has been synonymous with quality and service in the Plant & Pump Hire business since its inception in 1992. Since those early days, Matty has anticipated changing markets and stayed one step ahead all the way. Matty Walsh who, most people would know from his time on the Hurling field representing Kilkenny which, culminated with an All Ireland Senior medal in 1993. Matty and his MW Hire team bring the same pride and passion to customer service in the Plant and Pump business. MW Hire is the only Plant & Pump Hire business in the country that has been awarded the Prestigious ISO:9001 & the ISO14001 symbol's which is the global recognition for quality and environmental management of its business.
"Over the years we have built our customer base on repeat business, and the reason our customers return time and time again is our service," Walsh says, "MW Hire offers an unrivalled service 24/7, with quality state of the art fleet, and of course our highly skilled team, this makes us the number one choice in Plant & Pump Hire in Ireland." Matty is fulsome in his praise of the staff, most of which have being with MW Hire since its inception in 1992, "People make business succeed and grow, and this is evident in our team."
MW Hires familiar logo can be seen all over Ireland, At the start of the year with the adverse weather conditions MW Hire was supplying Flood relief projects all over the country - Galway, Clare, Limerick, Cork, Dublin as well as localised hotspots. They have supplied Plant & Pumps to most infrastructural schemes on this island from the M50, Limerick tunnel, N6 Ballinasloe to Athenry, N8 Nenagh to Castletown, Lisheen Mines to name a few, they also supply some of the countries biggest companies from ESB, O2, Bord na Mona, John SISK & Co., Roadbridge and most of the local and county councils.
Earlier this year the company opened a retail shop in Kilkenny city, which has exceeded all expectations and is doing very well at the moment. MW Hire are a significant employer in the area and have developed a reputation for looking after its employees.
MW Hire are currently one of the largest exporters of Generator sets in Europe and have supplied everything from Back up Generators and feed tanks to local Hotels and Hospitals to 1000kva sets to Timbuktu (literally, capital of Mali in Africa). Through their constant evolvement into all sectors MW Hire can bring their knowledge and expertise to anywhere in Ireland.
There is no doubt that The MW Hire Group has concrete connections with Kilkenny, Kilkenny G.A.A. and the Kilkenny Supporters club, but like every good team on the field, there are background staff, and they are the people that make it happen.
"It would be unfair to assume we are just Kilkenny, and nothing else, we have long serving staff from Tipperary, Laois, Offaly & Cork" says Walsh, "So when the opportunity arose for us to Sponsor Laois GAA, we took the challenge head on.
