Listowel school in All-Ireland bid

March 25, 2011
St. Michael's College, Listowel will bid for All-Ireland glory on Saturday when they face Mercy Secondary School, Kilbeggan in the All-Ireland Colleges SFC 'C' final at Templemore, Co. Tipperary (throw-in 2pm).

The North Kerry lads should benefit from a tough All-Ireland semi-final against HRC Mountbellew, who they defeated by 0-11 to 1-7 after extra-time. They had earlier defeated Cashel in the Munster final by 2-15 to 1-5.

Their Westmeath opponents also needed extra-time to overcome St. Kevin's CBS, Finglas in a thrilling Leinster final by 4-11 to 2-15 before producing a strong second half performance to defeat St. Patrick's, Belfast in the All-Ireland semi-final by 0-14 to 1-4 last Saturday.

St. Michael's teacher and former Kerry All-Ireland winning captain Liam Hassett said: "Kilbeggan are a very good team, but I'd be very proud of our lads. This is our second All-Ireland final - we reached this stage away back in the '80s with a team that included Liam O'Flaherty and Eamonn Breen (who were part of Kerry's 1997 All-Ireland winning team along with Hassett)."
