Kerry Ladies GAA notes

May 20, 2014

The Kerry under 21 squad.
Best of luck to Kerry senior ladies Manager William O'Sullivan who has been selected as Manager for Munster Ladies Inter Provincial team. The inter provincials take place on Saturday 24th May in Kinnegad Co. Westmeath. Kerry involvement also includes 11 players - Aoife Lyons
Aisling Leonard, Cait Lynch, Denise Hallissey, Aislinn Desmond, Emma Sherwood, Sarah Houlihan, Louise Ni Mhuirteartaigh, Edel Murphy, Deirdre Corridan & the side will also be Captained by Louise Galvin.

Hard luck to the Kerry U14 team who lost the U14 "A" National Blitz Final on Saturday in Mullingar to Cork by a solitary point Kerry 1-09 Cork 3-04. Kerry started the day very well defeating Dublin in their first game 3-10 to Dublin 0-1. They then met a tough Mayo side who the week previously were crowned Connacht champions & came out on top after a fierce battle Kerry 1-08 Mayo 2-03. Their final group game was against Meath whom they also defeated Kerry 1-10 to Meath 0-02. Kerry were through to the final but however picked up injuries on the day & were forced to re-jig the team. But despite this, the team played excellently & were leading by 6 points with 5 mins left on the clock. However Cork struck for a lucky goal when a long speculative ball hopped over the keepers head. Minutes later Cork were awarded a dubious penalty which they scored from leaving it level. Then just before the final whistle Cork won the Kerry kick out & pointed for victory. Kerry girls can be very proud of themselves as they played very well over the course of a long day. They now refocus for the All Ireland Semi Final - as they wait the Connacht champions on June 14th. Team: Laura Teahan, Anne O'Reilly, Tara Breen, Muireann Moriarity, Kate Maher, Hannah O'Donoghue, Ciara Murphy, Sophie Lynch, Laboishe Walmsley, Fiadhna Tangney, Aoife O'Callaghan, Ciara O'Brien, Erica Mc Glynn Capt, Brid Ryan, Jade Powell, Blathnaid Cotter, Ciara O'Sullivan, Sinead Warren, Rachel Fitzgerald, Georgina O Dwyer, Lucy Clifford, Molly O'Carroll, Niamh O'Chonchuir, Jayden Lucey, Erica O'Sullivan.

Commiserations to our U21 team who suffered a heavy defeat to Cork in the Aisling McGing U21 Cup. Kerry never seemed to be able to cope with Cork - who were much sharper & more determined than the Kerry side. Cork struck almost immediately from the throw in with a goal & practically straight after scored their second. The Cork half backs were unrelenting in their support of their attacking colleagues & provided great overlaps to create scoring chances. In defence Eilis & Brid O'Connor & Deirdre Kearney tried hard to quell Cork but were finding it a tough task. Kerry fortunately earned a penalty which Marie Quirke coolly slotted home to give Kerry their first score 15 mins into the half. Shortly after Claire O'Sullivan popped over a point. But Cork were not to be tamed & went in at half time leading well Kerry 2-01 Cork 4-11, Kerry's second goal came not long before half time, when Megan O'Connell latched onto the ball during a goal mouth scramble. The second half didn't provide much relief to Kerry, as Cork continued to dominate & attack continuously. Kerry's only scores in the second half was a Megan O'Connell goal which she lobbed over the Cork keeper & a wonderful long range point from Marie Quirke. A very disappointing day in the office with very little to take away from the game for both sides. Final Score Cork 8-21 Kerry 3-02. Kerry have a bye in the next round, where they will then face Clare on the weekend of June 7th/8th in a Kerry venue TBC.
