Sarah Houlihan and Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh with daithi O'Se at the Ladies All Stars night
Kerry Ladies Awards Night takes place on Saturday 16th November in the Killarney Heights Hotel. The senior players will be formally awarded with their National League Medals & Munster Championship medals while clubs will be awarded with their medals. In addition the club of the year will be announced with Fossa, Dromid & Listowel Emmetts the nominations. All three clubs have had a sterling season & have contributed positively to the development of ladies football in Kerry & in their areas. The All Ireland winning team of 1993 will also be honoured at the occasion as part of the Gathering 2013. It will be interesting mix to see the Kerry team 1993 share their war stories with the present team of 2013. Kerry are also very fortunate this year to have the Munster Senior Player of the Year & a Hall Fame Award in the county. A great night of entertainment is in store with local band Truly Diverse entertaining the crowd, with a fantastic door prize of a bike sponsored by O'Sullivans Cycles Killarney & special guests also. Tickets are only €30 & are available from County Secretary Mary Courtney, details on website.
The TG4 Ladies Football All Star Awards take place on Saturday 9th November at the Citywest Hotel. Mary Jo Curran received her Hall of Fame Award, a great achievement to tie in with her 10 All Irelands & 10 All Stars. Sarah Houlihan achieved her second All Star in a row in wing half forward, while Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh followed up her Munster Player of the Year award with the Number 15 All Star. Well done to all.
Best of luck to Na Gaeil Junior team as they face Shannon Gaels of Roscommon in Tesco Home Grown club championship All Ireland semi final. The game takes place in Na Gaeil Tralee at 1.30 on Sunday 17th. While Na Gaeil cruised through the Munster's, they will face a much stiffer challenge from the Connacht champions. Shannon Gaels beat a very good Louisburg side of Mayo in their Connacht final, on a scoreline of 0-18 to 0-10. They also boast the Connacht Young Player of the Year Tess Murtagh & Roscommon Seniors Sile O'Dowd & Niamh O Beirne. However Na Gaeil are much equipped to the task with Capt Riona Kennedy leading a tight ship in defence, midfield pair of Mary Doody & Eilis O'Connor securing possession while Marie Quirke & Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh with their vast inter county experience up front leading the attack. The winners will face St. Helens from Longford or Dunedin from Scotland who play in the other semi final. Calling on all Kerry football supporters to come on Sunday & cheer on Na Gaeil.
