Former GAA president Christy Cooney was euphoric after managing Youghal to an historic Munster club IHC success in Mallow yesterday.
Youghal became the first Cork club to lift the title since Ballymartle in 2010 following a 2-13 to 2-10 victory over Tipperary champions Ballina.
"There is great heart in this team, great fight, and they showed it again today just like all year," he enthused in the Irish Examiner.
"It is wonderful to be representing Cork and to win a Munster title. It is probably a bit beyond our wildest dreams.
"Ballina are a very good team. We knew they had a very good forward line, but our inside line were great today. We were unlucky to have a goal disallowed in the first half. We thought it was a very fair goal. We missed one or two goal chances then at the start of the second half which kept them in the game.
"But I think overall we were worthy winners. We had to make some switches too. Some players who went well other days didn't go as well today. But that is the way it goes. We have 17/18 players and we made the switches and it paid off for us."
