Celebrity Bainisteoir is Coming to Oughterard
June 14, 2011
Oughterard GAA Club is proud to announce that we have been chosen to represent Galway in this year's "Celebrity Bainisteoir", the popular RTE1 Sunday evening reality TV show. The programme is based on a knock-out competition between eight club teams from different counties, usually two from each province.
Oughterard GAA knows that this is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play for parish and county in a national competition and we are determined that we will not be found wanting! Celebrity Bainisteoir is a unique national showcase for the passion, skill and commitment of grassroots GAA. The tournament is officially sanctioned by the GAA and consists of four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and the final.
Oughterard GAA will be introduced to their Celebrity Bainisteoir in front of the cameras on Saturday July 2nd training will begin immediately in preparation for the quarter-finals which will be held August - a different quarter-final each weekend. The home advantage will be decided by a competition between each pair of teams.
The whole town will benefit with TV exposure, as the cameras will film in the community. The programme makers are eager to show the close bond between the local GAA, community and family. We are anticipating many ex players/supporters friends etc will come back to the area to stay and enjoy the different activities leading up to the game/games
The date for our Celebrity Bainisteoir to be introduced to the Oughterard community will be confirmed shortly; so please check our website

A great day was had by all and the organisers now hope to make it an annual event. Oughterard GAA would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters.
Junior C League played in Oughterard Saturday 4th June 2011
Oughterard 0-10 Leitirmór 1-5
Oughterard picked up another two points in the league with a great second half performance in Oughterard on Saturday. Playing against the breeze in the first half Oughterard found scores hard come by despite having good chances. Half time score was Oughterard 0-2 to Leitirmóir 0-4. Things got even worse for Oughterard when after ten minutes referee Frank Walsh awarded a penalty which was converted by Leitirmóir full forward Vinny Larkin.
This seemed to spur on the home team however who introduced Patrick Gibbons. Immediately the whole team began to chip into the five-point lead and over the final 20 minutes rattled off 8 great points to a solitary reply from the opposition. Morgan McDonagh was very influential at centre back while Mike McDonagh defended well and surged forward effectively when needed. Jason Coyne and the hard working Shane Molloy controlled midfield while up front James Butler, Gavin Conneely, Ciarán Noone and substitute Patrick Gibbons shone in a fantastic comeback.
The team was;
Lawrence Larkin, Albert McDonagh, Harry Walsh, Kevin McMahon, Justin Keogh, Morgan McDonagh, Mike McDonagh, Jason Coyne, Shane Molloy, James Butler, Gavin Conneely, Ciarán Noone, Lawrence Larkin, Shane Joyce, Malachy Ruane.
Subs used; Patrick Gibbons for Lawrence Larkin, Aonghus McGauley for Justin Keogh.
Referee Frank Walsh
