COMMITTEE MEETING
First Committee meeting: this Thursday night at 8.30.
AGM
Outgoing chairman Alan Talty presided at the Club A.G.M., at which secretary Ian Doyle gave a comprehensive report on the activities of the club for 2010. Our performances in all competitions were reviewed, with the senior team retaining their Section 1 status in the County League. In the Junior grades, the A team reached the North Board Championship semi-finals and the Junior Bs won the North Championship final, beating Corofin in a replay, and are through to the North Board League final against Athenry.
The Club thanked all players, managers, selectors, trainers, coaches, medical personnel and everyone who played a part in any way in the running of the club's teams in 2010. Also coaching officer John Tobin, main sponsors Tommy and Brian Loftus of Junie's, and all our other sponsors.
Tuam Stars Juvenile Club had a very busy 2010 with teams competing from U-6 to U-16, greatly helped by the club's excellent facilities, with the Astroturf pitch a wonderful addition. The U-6s and U-8s trained every Friday evening and had many challenge matches. Our thanks to Thomas Tyrell and all the coaches who gave of their time. Similarly for the U-10s who won our own Declan Kearns memorial tournament and the Cortoon tournament; special thanks to Liam Colleran and Michael Loftus. And to Fabian Kelly, Tony Higgins and Franny Fallon for their great work with the U-11/U-12 squad. The U-13s retained their League (A) title and the Canney Cup; thanks to Austin Winston and Cathal McGinn for their great work with this team who were unbeaten all year.
The U-14s went to the semi-finals of their League and Championship, under the guidance of Tony Keating, Francis McWalter and Declan Marley. In Féile, we won two group games but lost out to eventual winners Claregalway by four points in the group decider.
The U-15s got to the Divisional Shield (A) semi-finals, and the U-16s to the Championship (A) quarter-finals, under the management of Seán Rhatigan and his selectors, with thanks to Fabian for all the training.
Also praised was the new winter development programme for youngsters, under the guidance of John Tobin.
The AGM welcomed the club's magnificent new Astroturf facility, measuring 67 metres x 34 metres. The total capital investment for this facility was €215,000. Over the last five years the total capital investment that the club has made in improving facilities for players and members is approx. €1.1 million. There is further development work planned. Our thanks to Development Officer/Project Manager Arthur Ward for his hard work during the year, and also caretaker and Club vice-chairman Frank O'Grady, along with Thomas O'Neill and Michael Keane, for ensuring that our pitches, Clubhouse and grounds are always in immaculate condition.
The Astroturf facility, managed by Frank O'Grady, is available to the public for rent.
The Club thanked Alan Talty, John Dooley and Jimmy O'Mara for their hard work with the Lotto every week, Tuam Shopping Centre for sponsoring the tickets, and all our weekly ticket sellers, i.e. the pubs, shops and agents; everyone who buys a Lotto ticket, and all of our standing order members for their continued support. Also John McGrath who spent many hours collecting and registering hundreds of telephone numbers on our behalf for the Vodafone "Support Your Local G.A.A. Club" programme last year; all who helped organise the annual Golf Classic and all who supported it, another valuable fundraiser as detailed in Martin Noone's treasurer's report; the two men behind the club's involvement in the County Board's Digital Heritage Project, Seamus Kelly and John Dooley; and special thanks to Fr Stephen Farragher and Frank O'Grady for the Club Mass to remember the deceased members of Tuam Stars.
Tributes were also paid to many other people - too numerous to mention them all by name here - for their dedication and commitment to the club all year.
Alan Talty stepped down from the "chair" after his years of outstanding service and he wished the club all the best for 2011. He is succeeded by Micheál Geraghty.
