Whats the obsession with Cooper helmets?

(Oldest Posts First)

Can never understand why everyone wants a Cooper helmet. I seen a few second hand ones online going for 180-220 euro. Why are they so expensive? Some of the ones I seen for that price looked 20-25 years old and with no guard. I have worn a Mycro all my life and never seen the problem with it. So why are Coopers the must have helmet?

Just watch teenagers copying each others clothes and labels, and I'd say you'd be on the right track :D

The cooper helmet, by way of its construction tends to accommodate a bigger head hence the big price.

In fairness I think the obsession came from back in the days of the Mycro "bucket" helmet. That quickly moved to the Mycro's bubble effort.

Coopers were way ahead in terms of comfort and being able to see out of them up until the 2000s. The old Mycros were pathetically bad.

Mycro have upped their game considerably and since I started wearing a helmet at adult level (since the rule came in) I've always used them as I don't see much of a difference to be honest.

You never see the Gola helpmeets anymore. Pretty much identical to the Cooper.
Not sure what the obsession was either, bit of a status symbol I suppose

Anyone remember the big white Christy Goodwin helmets as worn by Humpy McKillen back in the day?

They were a glorified motorbike helmet.

How the lads head wasn't boiled off him during a game is beyond me.

Ha, that's right. And the ones John and ger Henderson used to wear, they looked like skateboard helmets.
The northerners often used to have very wierd ones, I used to look forward to seeing them in the AI semi final, to see what theyd come up with

Never got it. Seeing people paying stupid money for them is just ridiculous. Fair enough a few years ago but Mycro/Marc have just as good a helmets. And they are certified for safety standards which old cooper helmets are not. In my view, the current Mycro helmet is the best on the market.
