Well done Longford

Fantastic 2nd half comeback from the lads. Laois had a goal disallowed in injury time for a square ball from a free. It'll be interesting to see the incident on the Sunday Game but Longford definitely deserved to win. It makes up for the defeat in Portlaoise last year.

Heard about the disallowed goal, sounds as if it will be a talking point.

Well done on a great win, Longford are a good side, showed that in the league.

Indeed. They are shaping up to be dark horses as many have suggested.

Pretty nervous about meeting them in the next round considering what they did to us in the Division 3 final.

I think the rule is no square ball except for frees & 45's. The disallowed goal came directly from a free.

Only caught the 10 mins or so highlights on the Sunday Game last night.
Edited highlights or not, it looked like Paul Barden was in super form.
He's a lot of mileage on the clock but he stood out yesterday as the best player on show. Still got terrific pace.

Well done to Longford

Said all along they may have a good year. I fancy them to maybe make last 8.

Great result for Longford. Put that 2nd half performance into a full 70 minutes and they'd be a threat to anyone in Leinster.

Midfield is still a problem but the defence was superb. Sunday Game showed Laois goal definitely was a square ball so fair play to the officials. He was a good referee, I think. He let the game flow.

Yep, really impressed with Longford, would tend to agree with another poster, strong possibility they could make last eight, maybe even semi finals.

Take yesterdays games, you would put longford way ahead of the likes of Roscommon.

Paul Barden is a classy footballer. Would like to see Longford reach the Leinster Semi now.

Longford are a team on the rise and could have a good run in the Championship this year. Barden and Quinn are two serious footballers.

On another note, Laois must surely be close to dispensing with McNulty? They have gone backwards over the past two years and look like they are going nowhere. He is persisting with selecting midfielders in the forward line - Sheehan, Begley, Meaney and Clancy are all midfielders not forwards, and they look a million miles from the pacy free-scoring team Micko had a few years ago.

Is that Barden lad a son of the great Brendan Barden from An Longfort's great team of the late sixties that won a Leinser and a league?

He's a son of Micheal Barden. Brendan was his uncle. His brother David is on the team as well and another brother Enda Was a great servant to the county as well lining out at centre field.

McNulty seems to have sour grapes over the defeat but the Laois people around me were very dignified & believed the best team on the day won. He said the goal changed the game. Yes it did but it was coming. Longford were totally on top at that stage & missed 2 or 3 gilt-edged goal chances before Paul Barden hit the net.

Be very hard to beat wexford 3 times in 2 months. If the second half in the league final is anything to go by we could be up against it. Wexford will be strong favourites.

Longford will have to improve they must play for the entire game. Laois Full forward Clancy should have been sent off he punched Longford goal keeper in the back with play at the other end of the field, in fairness that was all he did all day.
