All-Ireland Medals!.....Who gets what?!

(Oldest Posts First)

Lads,

Im curious to know how many medals are issued to the All-Ireland winning team.

By this I mean, obviously the team get medals and does this include the whole panel of players?

What about say a lad that came in half way through the championship as some kind of 'inspirational brought out of retirement super-sub' just for the semi-final or final or whatever?.....how does he slot into the medals list?
Does the manager get a medal?
A sent off player?
Selectors?
Backroom persons?
Is there a 'players medal' and then some kind of award for backroom staff or anything?

What is the criteria?....and where is the line drawn?....Must a list of names be submitted at the beginning of the championship?.....Is there a cap put on the amount issued by the GAA?

Just curious!....Does anyone know?

Regards,

If I'm not mistaken its the 30 or whatever number on the panel that is named on the day of the final, whether you're sent off or have just come back during etc.

No medals for managers as far as Im aware!

I know a fella who didnt play or train with the county minor team all year and was drafted in as a sub for the final and walked away with an AI medal without breaking sweat.

I thin iv heard on occassions of county boards getting replicas for the boys who didnt get the original.

The players named on the panel on final day get medals. The county board can buy additional medals for others who dont make the final selection.

Hard on guys who have trained all year & maybe played a part in the success but arent allowed on the bench but have to watch from the stand.

Country folk get most of them.

The County Board decide what they do with the medals. But if you do not play on Final day, you are not counted as an All Ireland Medal winner. Only those who start and used subs are classed as having won an All Ireland in that particular year.

Hardly seems fairs that its only the match day 26 that gets them.

Only 26. Think that rule was changed from 30 (could be wrong) back to 26 a few years ago.

You're right lads, its only 26. County boards have the option of buying more for the rest of the panel.
