Placepot betting....how the hell does it work??

(Oldest Posts First)

I completed a placepot in the bookies at the weekend with two selections for each of the first six races at naas on sunday past. Overall i had four firsts, two seconds, a third and a fourth but got nothing from it. Can anyone explain the ins and outs of the placepot as i am flummoxed!!

I thought i had though, checked with results in ceefax/teletext and the horse that finished 4th was included as a place due to the large number running in the race, so that was all six races with at least one of the two horses placing.

Was it two bets or 64 bets ?
ie you had bet one and bet two in each race
Either all the ones or all the twos had to be placed
otherwise it is anyone of the two in each race which has 64 possibilities

so a €1 placepot would have cost you €64 to cover your permutations

The race has to have 16 or more runners for 4th place pay out .

rua, it was 64 bets as i only had 25 cent on each bet. The race in question where the horse finished fourth had 16 runners which is why i assumed it was placed. I dont think i would have won much anyway but it left me a little confused as i didnt know enough about the bet to discuss it further with the bookie

Don't know then would have thought that should be OK -though for a 16 horse race I think it has to be a Handicap for 4th place to count.

I've checked the results from Naas last Sunday.

Unless the fourth placed horse was A New Story, the bet is a loser.....

I work in a bookies and bookies only pay out on the 4th place if theres 16 or more runners and it is a handicap race, sometimes during cheltenham and galway weeks they'll give specials such as paying out on the 5th placed horse

If you don't know how a bet works, then don't do it. Placepot's are quite simple really.
