Number of GAA clubs in Limerick?

(Oldest Posts First)

Does anyone have accurate information on how many GAA clubs are in existance in Limerick,
Perhaps we can break it down division by division?
Also would dual named clubs be considered as one or two clubs such as Glenroe in Hurling and Ballylanders in Football?

I believe there is 67 clubs in the county if i remember from a county vote on Justin. Bally and Glenroe are 2 seperate clubs from 2 different parishes one is hurling one is football. They dont just have differnet names.

The south has 18 clubs counting that Banougue and Dromin/A are seperate clubs which i think they are.

The east has 14 if you count caherline hurling seperate to Caherconlish football

Someone else can count the rest they change every year in the city.

Hi Kenlim,
Thanks for the link, very informative and good to see the various club colours. Just a quick question though, my maths aren'e great but it appears that there are 69 clubs as oppossed to the 67 that voted on Justin's reign? Anyone know what two clubs didn't vote?

Yeah 69 is correct, broken down as follows:

West 24
South 18
City 14
East 13

Here's a far better link than the Limerick gaa website, http://www.milford.limerick.gaa.ie/limerickclubs.html

It provides the foundation year of each club, the clubs' colours, directions how to get to each club grounds, etc.

Just looking at the make up of each division, Seems most of the 13 clubs based in the east Divison aren't too far from the city (Within 10 or so miles of the city) would it more sense to combine this division into the city? - Bearing in mind that clubs like Kildimo and Pallaskenry already in the City division but wouldn't be considered city teams.?
Also just a query, I've never read or heard anything about Knockane Club. Are they still in existence? Who would their main players be? Former county players etc?

No seperate clubs seprate officers and votes in county board they arent the same parish andplayers from bally can chose to play with other clubs if they wish.

Knockane still play in junior b hurling & football - not sure about the hurling this season. Dont know of any players, John Franklin who was chairman of the east board in 2008?? is a Knockane club man. They are situated between kilteely dromkeen, pallasgreen, & emly of tipp.

There were 2 clubs absent on the night of Justin's vote. I also think that some of the clubs and two of the Divisions did not have a full compliment of delegates present on that night.
If you are establishing the number of clubs to determine the number of votes at a CB meeting then you must remember that some clubs have 1 vote while others have 2. I think about 30 clubs are single delegate with the remainder having 2 delegates amounting to about 104 votes, the top table have 13, the divisional boards have 4 each, handball, referees, Bord na nóg, Primary Schools and Vocational Schools have 1 vote each. I might be missing 1 or 2 but I think there are about 138 votes in total, minimum of 92 required to meet two thirds majority if all were present.

Agree that Milford website very well done. County board website a joke. Info on it mostly a few days old. Hoganstand.com always my first port of call if looking for latest news or results.

creb that says it all really about the county board they are a bunch of people living in the stone age interdivisional game in senior hurling today (western gaels and city gaels) appartantly there were no teamsheet umpires linesmen scoreboard etc and few of the players that played played last night against cork bit of a joke for a senior intercounty game i suppose result wont be in paper tomorrow again as PRO will not send in results in time

knockane has to have one of the smallests pick in the county if not the country. Amazing how they keep it going every year. They compete in the junior b hurling and football but their glory days were along time ago when they got to a number of county senior football finals and actually won one in 1940
