What's the story the last year or two with footballers taping up their wrists for matches? Is there any benefit? A few of the younger lads in our club do it aswell but I can't see the point? Does it not just stop the bloodflow? myrealname (Westmeath) - Posts: 12 - 30/10/2009 11:07:10 470604 Link 0 |

I've started doing it when playing hurling, my wrist starts to get sore so taping it seems to give it a bit of support... bosch (Derry) - Posts: 873 - 30/10/2009 12:06:18 470683 Link 0 |
probably one of these fashion trends that happen from time to time. Soccer players used to put some tape on the noses. They said it helped them breath better. Turned out it did nothing at all. JPM1981 (Kildare) - Posts: 825 - 30/10/2009 12:52:47 470754 Link 0 |
i see young lads now taping socks up and sleeves up just shaping if you ask me ,one young lad from my club nearly uses a whole roll of insulating tape before a game can't see the point of it but each to their own i suppose peat_burns (Westmeath) - Posts: 94 - 30/10/2009 15:13:03 470941 Link 0 |

Seems like players use the tape as a kind of brace so to speak,I know for a fact that the Armagh players started this trend after talking to a rugby coach (read Oisin McConville's autobiography for details) Duffy89 (Wexford) - Posts: 3320 - 30/10/2009 16:21:17 471037 Link 0 |
Ive never had to tape up my wrists before a game. Our team doctor once remarked about what incredibly strong wrists i had and enquired as to how i managed to build up such muscles in them whiterbannnas (Mayo) - Posts: 2441 - 30/10/2009 18:03:53 471197 Link 0 |

9 times out of 10 its done just for the look i believe..also seen lads do it around there ankles but now they seem to have upgraded to just a white sock which shows it was always for the show.. mydog (Galway) - Posts: 154 - 31/10/2009 21:48:51 471994 Link 0 |
There was an article in one of the papers a few years ago, about McGeeney and Armagh and some of their training methods. If I remember rightly the tapes on the wrists thing came about after training sessions with the former rugby league player Shaun Edwards. They were used to protect the wrists when shoving two hands into the chests of oncoming opposition players. On_the_ditch (Tyrone) - Posts: 98 - 31/10/2009 23:03:54 472031 Link 0 |
Yes a lot of senior county hurlers wear wrist tape e.g eoin kelly, damien hayes loads more. Why do they do this ? There must be some benefit other than for looks?.. Dhuibh (Down) - Posts: 281 - 18/05/2010 21:03:15 651543 Link 0 |
