This was announced months ago.
I think its a great idea. I'm not fully sure what he is doing but I know he is heavily involved in Clonmel High School. I suppose he reckons that to have a really good "academy" like Flanhans in Ennis or Jarlaths in Tuam is the best way to develop players. Personally I think in his role as Director of Football he should be focusing on the other end of the county which is very underdeveloped football wise, but who am I to argue with Johnny Evans? He has done fantastic work here.

2010 will be his third year in charge Duffy. He has done super work so far. I'd imagine that his appointment as Director of Football was driven by The Friends of Tipperary Football, an organisation which supports the county teams financially and has the goal of helping to make Tipp a competitive football force by 2020, which I think will be the 100 year anniversary of our 4th and last All Ireland. There is good work happening in Tipp football unfortunately it gets zero support from most hurling people.

Yes Evans has done super work in Tipp football over the last 2 years especially in the NFL.Unlucky to get a very tough draw in this years championship.I think a Director of football role could be used in so called 'weaker' counties more often.

I would imagine that the "Director of Football" role in GAA would be a lot different than the soccer equilavent - i.e. he won't be in charge of Tipp's transfer budget!

What exactly does a "Director of Football" do in the GAA, and is it a full-time or paid job? I would imagine he would be in charge of coaching in clubs, schools etc. and would do a bit of scouting of players possibly good enough for county teams?

Sounds like a Sven Gora Erikkson role!! Is this not what a Chairman of the County board is for?!

I can see Tipp becoming one of the top football teams in the country! They have been strong at underage level recently and that has been with the hurling still dominating, so if the football is treated on an equal level then I can see them doing well.

Think its a paid job nocky, Evans retired from the Gardai recently. Regards what he's doing I'd say it's pretty much a development role, developing structures in the schools and stuff. Like I said before I've heard he is spending a lot of time in Clonmel High School.

I think part of the reason why its taken so long from announcing this to oficially appointing him was because they had to define the role
