Buying hurls

(Oldest Posts First)

Lads, I appreciate this may have been asked on here before but I was just wondering where could a fella buy a few hurls to puck around with given the fine weather we've been having of late!

I know a few of the sports shops stock hurls but the quality of them seems to be poor.

Also, I haven't played competitively for years so I'm not a member of the local hurling club.

I remember getting hurls off O'Dea in Ardrahan years ago but not sure if he's still around?

Thanks in advance

O'dea still makes them. Im sure you'd get the number in the phone book. Depends what area in Galway youre from? Plenty hurley makers in east galway.

Thanks pundit, appreciate it - I'm in the city but can travel - who would you recommend?

Found this on another forum -

From last year's Juvenile Hurling booklet...

Names and numbers of local hurley makers:

Paddy O'Dea, Ardrahan 091-635134
Tony Keady, Portumna 090-9741147
Frank Kelly, Gort 091-633142
Ollie Kilkenny, Kiltormer 090-9627371
Philip Larkin, Loughrea 091-841834
Tom Joe Larkin, Killimor 090-9676229
Shanahan, Clarina, Limerick 061-353237

Clancy in Tubber, Co.Clare (on Galway border) also makes them. O'Deas would be my own preference but has a a rounder shaped bass than most hurleys. Maybe an Ollie Kilkenny if your not fond of them.
