Will Kildress Wolfe Tones ever have a county player? Even the Rock have one, have Kildress ever had a senior player there's bound to have been some one in Kildress in the past 100 years good enough for the County cookstownkid (Tyrone) - Posts: 19 - 13/02/2009 00:22:27 205742 Link 0 |
Kieran Mc Gurk played for Armagh and Kildress. Does that count. Mick O Connell (None) - Posts: 1231 - 13/02/2009 09:39:52 205806 Link 0 |
It's looking increasingly likely that Cookstown will only have one county player as well this year after Mickey makes the cut. Mulgrew needs to raise his game a bit when given the chance. mugsys_barber (Tyrone) - Posts: 2160 - 13/02/2009 11:31:04 205921 Link 0 |
Mulgrew will be on the county panel - guarenteed! He didnt get a chance last year as he was injured and when he got back to full fitness the starting 15 were playing very well so changes didnt need to be made. He is playing really well for jordanstown this year by all accounts so he could well be pushing for a startin place when the c'ship rolls round tyrone22 (Tyrone) - Posts: 31 - 13/02/2009 15:01:26 206198 Link 0 |
Cookstown Kid, yes lets laugh at Kildress because they have no senior players. Meanwhile whilst you are laughing, Kildress remain in senior football and Cookstown are in intermediate. As a club footballer myself, I know which scenario i'd prefer to be. Rio Bingo (Tyrone) - Posts: 788 - 13/02/2009 15:53:08 206252 Link 0 |
Yes but soon Cookstown will play senior football and Kildress will still have no county players, cookstownkid (Tyrone) - Posts: 19 - 13/02/2009 17:37:21 206400 Link 0 |
they should have at least 1 tyrone minor this year, young lennon should be a cert!! countychampions (Tyrone) - Posts: 12 - 13/02/2009 17:59:40 206414 Link 0 |
Cookstown Kid, why does a team have to have a county player to be good, take a look at Clonoe last year they didnt have any county men yet they won the championship, whereas cookstown had 2 and couldnt stay in senior football, as for Kildress not having none i feel its harsh done by, Over the past 5 years Des Tracey is probably the counties top scorer and most consistent preformer in club football, so can you explain his exclusion, and also fran Loughran is a quality player. However ill let you have ur moment because county matches are the only chance you will get to see the majority of tyrones players this year, you wont have to worry about facing most of them in club football this year. at the end of the day it's the manager's choice nobody elses so this is just a cheap jibe at Kildress lookin a silly argument.. grow up kid it's easy to hide behind a computer Rahilly_Man (Tyrone) - Posts: 361 - 15/02/2009 00:30:37 207064 Link 0 |
As a kildress man, I am glad that we have no players on the county team as it means we dont hav to worry about players missing for league games during the season. However, it has to be said that Fran Loughran should have been on the Tyrone team a few years ago when he was in his prime. Des treacy wasnt too far either as Tyrone could use a good accurate free taker. Kildress WT (Tyrone) - Posts: 67 - 15/02/2009 12:22:31 207160 Link 0 |
So basically what you all are saying that its a bad thing to have a county player on your team. cookstownkid (Tyrone) - Posts: 19 - 15/02/2009 13:51:43 207203 Link 0 |
lets just say if you had Owen Mulligan and Raymond Mulgrew would you have finished higher in the league? there is your pitfall..Cookstown might have been playing senior football for another year if you had them! mon-errigal (Tyrone) - Posts: 189 - 15/02/2009 19:15:53 207395 Link 0 |
Aw it must be horrible for owen mulligan alright, he is a good player, but the only horrible thing will be after preforming infront of 80,000 people and then goin back home to play infront of about 16 people in front of teams like urney etc, and thats no disrespect to urney, but You came on to this to get a jibe at Kildress, whereas the fact remains Kildress are a better team than Cookstown because they are playing in senior football and Cookstown arent. Ps its obvisous you are one of these people that could barely fit into a cookstown jersey and dont actually play football, because if you were actually a player you wouldnt be so nieve. re: Cookstown Kid you must only be a kid and should ask a few of your club elders about whether or not Kildress ever had Co.players. MickO'Connell was spot on about Kieran McGurk. I remember Sean Tracey playing senior for the county in the 90's, Kieran Kelly in 80's, also Aiden O'Connor/Jason Mulgrew were on Co.panels at the turn of the millenium. does Cookstowns Raymond Mulgrew not have Kildress blood anyway - maybe Kildress should be claiming him, although he has a bit to prove that he is a co.player. alot of the other posts on this subject have been sensible unlike you Cookstown Kid, realising that its Micky Harte who picks the squad and also recognising the talented players in the Kildress club already mentioned in their posts who for whatever reason didn't get a call up. skyhigh (Tyrone) - Posts: 23 - 17/02/2009 09:33:21 209119 Link 0 |
I would just like to express my gratitude that on a sometimes spoilt message forum that sanity and reason have prevailed! I intentionally didn't weigh in on this argument as I found it ridiculous but I have held my tongue long enough! I agree with most of the points raised by the mature posters above! Kildress may not have had the greatest Tyrone player history but they have had some very good players! Some representing Tyrone when it wasn't so glamorous to do so! Kildress certainly have players good enough on their current and recent squads to have earned an All Ireland Senior medal. Now when you look at this maybe people say where would these players have fitted into the 3 all Ireland winning 15's? This is not my point. They were great 15's - but when you look at some of the passengers on all these squads I don't think eyebrows would have been raised if 1 or 2 of the Kildress panel had climbed up the steps to receive their Celtic Cross. Now ask yourselves why this was, well there is a belief and, it goes further than the parish boundaries of Kildress, as to the reason for this but it would be silly to start that argument and whether its true or not is to be decided by the individual! The fact of the matter is Tyrone have a great team, Kildress are senior team with some excellent footballers (and do also benefit from the fact they don't lose any throughout the year to the county squad) and Cookstown are an intermediate team. Now picking up on another point made by a poster above not only does Raymond Mulgrew have a significant amount of Kildress blood the fact of the matter is a lot of Cookstown's better footballers from the past have some connection back to Kildress! PS As anyone in Kildress would tell you, you can keep Mugsy for I can never remember a time when he counted in a Kildress/Cookstown derby but sure if it's the Croke Park sunshine that makes him tick then fair play to him! I find the labelling of all ireland winning players "passengers" a huge disservice to their name and slightly insulting!! Each player on an all ireland winnng panel would have done their bit in helping the team reach the holy grail, they might not hit the mighty scores in Croker but through pushing their team mates on in training and increasing the pressure on people to hold onto their starting berths, they definitely deserve their place. What is your little consiparcy theory about Kildress players not making the panel anyway?? And as for your comment about Mugsy, I find it humourous that Kildress would not take a player of his ability and flair on board! Youse must have unreal forwards in Kildress I dont know about! Just to make something perfectly clear I totally agree with what your saying regarding county players rio! This certainly was not my point! The point I was trying to make was not the lack of ability on the squad but merely the fact that there were a lot of players on the team who I would perceive to be of the same standard or of a slightly lesser standard than some of the squad players in those three great years! I didn't go into naming names as I thought it would be unfair as the players I'm thinking off thoroughly deserve their medal for the effort they put in all season! I was merely saying that although any of the players from the kildress club I was thinking of probably wouldn't have played in many first 15's those years they could have done the same role as a few others in the squad, i.e what your saying - training hard and pushing the main stays of the team on! As for my conspiracy well I said I wasn't getting into it so I'm not anybody that knows can make their own mind up! And your last point I strongly retort. Mugsy is a wonderful flair player for tyrone in the glamour of the sunshine and flashing cameras but I've seen him (and I think you'll find honest Cookstown people agree with me) disappear to often at club level! If your asking a Kildress man who they'd prefer to have last day of the season in a relegation playoff against Donaghmore (when you'll find Mugsy missed enough placed kicks to win the game) I and they would pick Des Tracey!
