Best towns for an inter-county game

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

As Kerry played Longford 2 years ago, a large number of Longford fans made a weekend of it in Killarney. They commented on the great weekend they had and thought it was a great spot. I really enjoy myself the trips to Dublin and even though its mostly only league games think that Galway is hard to beat. Cork is great as well, only problem is that it's full of corkmen :D only joking.

Does anybody have any towns where they went to games that stood out for them personally?

was at a league match in galway a couple of years ago and stayed the weekend it was great craic. Ballybofey last year was great night even though we got beat. Clones is brilliant craic on a big match day. Narrow streets, all the bars and beer gardens packed always a great atmosphere win lose or draw.

A few seasons ago Leitrim hosted Dublin in a qualifier game in Carrick on Shannon. Dublin won the game and many of their traveling support stayed in Carrick on Shannon for the Saturday night. the craic was 90!!!

Thurles stood out for me a few years back. Not sure why looking back but had a great day (apart from the result). Maybe it was the novelty factor....

Was down in Killarney for that game myself. As a location it is fabulous, the views around Fitzgerald stadium were magnificent. The ignoramous Kerry fan abusing me every chance he got during the game and obviously the result soured the experience a bit.
It was funny that the huge travelling support was the driving force behind so many Kerry supporters attending the game (as i was told by some genuine Kerry fans in Danny Manns (I think it was) that night.

Was at Derry v Dublin in Clones a few years back and had great crack and Longford when there's a championship game on is a great place to be. Had a ball with Dublin fans in 06 after the game in Pearse Park.

I am still in shock that some people actually picked Thurles, either they have never been outside their own town or village in their entire lives before, or were so drunk that they thought Thurles was Barcelona in disguise, but in all seriousness and my apologies to any Tipperary people offended by this, but Thurles has to be the greatest dump in Ireland, and not a place you would be looking to spend a night or two in!!

fatboy slim....its the best town for an intercounty game. On an ordinary night thurles is a bit of a dump....suppose galway rarely have anything to celebrate there! Suppose Ballinasloe is better for the horse fair!!!

Clones - you'll know you're in an Irish town, unlike so many other soul-less venues around the country. Capacity and close to pubs.
