Can anyone suggest any rules that might improve our games? I feel hurling needs very little change, if any, as it probably the best field sport in the world, but I do think that our football needs a ruling regarding tackling. The "shoulder" has become almost obsolete because of the pace of the game. publican (Westmeath) - Posts: 29 - 01/12/2008 15:24:27 153904 Link 0 |

i think that the 'square ball' rule should be taken out and the suggested sin bin rule which if you get a yellow card your out for a period of time should not come into effect. otherwise the rules are grand as it is Mayoegian (Mayo) - Posts: 72 - 01/12/2008 15:48:04 153934 Link 0 |

Bring in the mark to the game. As time after time we see the pulling and dragging of a player when they field a great catch . declan30 (Limerick) - Posts: 652 - 02/12/2008 09:42:26 154486 Link 0 |

Give linesman more powers making them more like an assistant referee than a man with a stick. They should be aloud call aggressive fouls. datsrite (Sligo) - Posts: 473 - 02/12/2008 18:42:33 155132 Link 0 |

Leave it the way it is good football. The mark would destroy the game watching to many aussie rules football. Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 02/12/2008 19:00:15 155161 Link 0 |

Given the current emphasis on fitness I think the mark could be a good addition, in football obviously. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 02/12/2008 22:21:37 155394 Link 0 |

still think getting rid of the corner flags would be a good move, allowing points to be scored from behind the goal, H+S might have concerns but im sure ithey could be circumvented by the appeals committee. it would also help keep the umpires awake. dhorse (Laois) - Posts: 11374 - 02/12/2008 22:40:39 155415 Link 0 |

The mark would slow the game down even more. Perhaps the rule of maybe 3 handpasses before the ball is kicked would be a better one. datsrite (Sligo) - Posts: 473 - 03/12/2008 21:17:29 156362 Link 0 |

I'd introduce a mark but only when the ball is caught directly from a kick-out, it'd encourage high fielding and prevent a group of players waiting to swamp the player who has the ability to field the ball, when he lands. I'd also allow the ball to be picked off the ground, like the womens game - it defenitly keeps the game faster. kingspan (Cavan) - Posts: 55 - 04/12/2008 00:03:57 156485 Link 0 |
